  1. If want to relocate my bank HQ to Shanghai, might well stay put in Hong Kong, no need to waste relocation costs , and face more business unfriendly regulation .

  2. The truth is out, financial institutions will be judged for their complicity with a regime that has put Uyghurs in Xinjiang in concentration camps.  We are reaching a precipice where people are starting to realize that economic progress does not necessarily expand human rights.  All those promoting the benefits of a globalized China are being proven wrong now.  China has not liberalized.  It has actually grown more brazen.  It ignores the territorial boundaries with its neighbors especially in the South China Sea, it takes advantage of struggling economies by instituting their strategic "Chinese debt traps",  and their government has done nothing or very little to target those waging and opioid war with the US through illicit fentanyl exports.

  3. Singapore is the best. Their English is actually better than many Westerners, and they can speak Mandarin too. Add in low taxes, political stability, high education levels and overzealous work ethic, etc.

  4. Even WSJ knows the key for Hong Kong's success is being a gateway to China. Beijing, please don't interfere and let the riot continue, it's such an enjoyment to see these ungrateful HKers suffering.

  5. Hong Kong is screwed as a place for doing business. Why risk good money when rioters can torch it anytime? It's still attractive as an espionage hub. If only HK can find ways to make the foreign spies pay for using the city as a spy center.

  6. No matter how much HongKongers, and Mainlanders dislike HongKongers. The truth is that we need each other. Chinese companies wish to access world capitals close home on the step of the door while the Chinese government still wish to maintain a degree restriction on capital flows in and out of mainland China. The reason why PRC doesn’t wish to give up the tight control on the HK executive branch is that they wish to maintain a financial hub that is forever friendly to Chinese businesses. Singapore won’t give PRC that advantage cuz it is not a part of China. Without China as its hinterland, HongKong is easily replaceable by Singapore. Even before the handover, HK has acted like bridge between the world and then closed-off mainland China. The amendments to the extradition bill was a grave mistake by HK government and CCP, and the subsequent handling of the issue was even worse. A movement just for universal suffrage won’t gain this much public support had HK people not felt the judicial autonomy and rule of law was threatened, which is the last straw. It is not because the HK people demand too much. It is because the CCP demands too much. It is bad enough to delay universal suffrage that have always been promised by the HK basic law. Now, this?

  7. 1 hk can be replaced to some extent, but no country can replace china mainland, at least for now.
    2. financial market must base on industry or logistic. where are the industry? singapore is not close enough. hk couldn't be that strong without the development of china mainland.

  8. The whole world is talking about environmental problems, economic growth, technology development…only HK youngsters are self-destructing and move a step backward. As a international city ranked 3rd in GaWC study, that is so sad. HK will never gonna be in top 10 again next year, the rioters are destroying a beautiful city constructed by their parents.

  9. Singapore is not the best alternative to HK but Shanghai is due to its huge , modern & well trained work force. One just needs to trun back the closk to identify Shanghai as Asia Financial hub before the WW2 or earlier. HSBC stands for HK & Shanghai Bank if not HK the Shanghai

  10. wow makes u think the ppl in HK are willing to sacrifice their economy for democracy, apparently some protesters even carry their wills in the their backpacks

  11. Tokyo??? In what capacity can Tokyo substitute HK for a financial centre and trade with China? This does not make any sense at all. Taipei would have made much more sense than the inclusion of Tokyo in this list…

  12. Mindless Miscreants in HK. gullible that they completely played into the US hands in helping to sabotage and spite their own parents by literally burning down their own home.

  13. Glad to see all the money in Hong Kong already leaving the Chinese city to Singapore… HK is a filthy dump compared to Singapore even before the riots… Now its just a complete wasteland…
