  1. I'm amused that pundints and critics still think that Joker is a film that only white people liked it and for that reason get 11 nominstions. So apparently India, Chile and Hong Kong are white countries/city because people there used the character as a symbol in protests last year. Lol

  2. The “we don’t need another Little Women” argument is ridiculous when you’re arguing for her not being nominated up against Joker

  3. Why do we allow this notion if you win Best International Film (formally Best Foreign Language) you can't win Best Picture. Why do Fans, Critics, Gold Derby experts and the Academy allow this narrative to dictate who wins Best Picture. In the last 10 years (including 1917) the BAFTA awards have selected the same film to win both Best British Film and Best Picture. Why can't we have Parasite take both honors? Why is it treated as TABOO?

  4. The videos featuring Tom O'Neil and his critic friends are my favourites. There is real in sight in these unlike the editors ones.

  5. 7:07 – Joker has three women of color in speaking roles and one child actor of color: Social Worker (Debra); Neighbor (Sophie); Psychiatrist (Dr Sally); Sophie's daughter (Gigi).

Bearing this in mind, do you honestly think that 1917, Ford v Ferrari, The Irishman, Jojo Rabbit, Little Women, Marriage Story or Once Upon a Time in Hollywood have more women of color in speaking roles than the Joker film?

By my count the only 2019-2020 Best Picture nominee with more women of color in speaking roles is Parasite, with its full Korean ensemble cast.

  6. This "New Academy" that pundits keep harping about gave Green Book a Best Picture Oscar, gave Bohemian Rhapsody 4 Oscars, and gave Joker 11 Oscar nominations. So stop with this nonsense that the new Academy members are somehow highbrow, snobbish voters that only like Metacritic films. Those new international and black, POC voters love traditional, populist films. That's why JoJo Rabbit, 1917 and Joker are heading for Oscar wins.

  7. Scarlett, for the record, was horrible in Marriage Story. I can understand how Laura Dern and Ray Liotta and Julie Haggerty were supposed to be caricatures, playing it a little camp. But with Adam playing the husband in a natural style….he was a real guy in this, Scarlett being very over the top and very actressy was a huge mistake. She's not good at all. The only parts that fit for her were when she was on stage in his horrible plays. The rest of her performance was miserable.

  8. IDEA ON BEST DIRECTOR ISSUE: EXPAND THE BEST DIRECTOR CATEGORY TO 10 NOMINEES. JUST LIKE BEST PICTURE. SO THAT WE DON'T HAVE THIS BACKLASH ON NOT INCLUDING FEMALE DIRECTORS OR MALE DIRECTORS WHO ARE JUST AS DESERVING.

  9. Please Tom O'Neil, enough with the ranting about the best supporting actor caregory for Brad Pitt. Did you go off when Nicole Kidman won best actress, not supporting, for The Hours. Many said Kidman was on screen for only 1/3 of that movie's time, saying it was more a supporting role? A number of past Oscar winners got theirs in lead category, when should have been supporting.

  10. I agree with Thelma that if there is an acting surprise, it'll be for Supporting Actress. However, Laura Dern is Hollywood royalty and I think she pulls it out in the end and gives Marriage Story it's only win. The other three are locks. From my conversations with Gold Derby experts who have talked to so many Oscar voters, there's not a chance anyone takes down Joaquin Phoenix, Brad Pitt, or Renée Zellweger. There probably will be surprises, but it'll be in the below-the-line categories or Best Picture.

  11. Lol the irony of Tom asking why the cast of “Parasite” couldn’t get in and then saying the voters wouldn’t know how to spell their names when he has referred to the cast as the “Parasite actors” and the “Parasite guy” all season.

  12. I think 1917 is great movie but parasite is even greater. Since BAFTA gave all the awards to 1917 , parasite will be prevailing.ie. Best movie best directing , writing .Editing and international feature~!!

  13. Imma say I told you so when Tarantino wins his third Oscar for original screenplay. He wasn’t eligible at WGA and Oscars aren’t as woke as people online think they are/should be to be handing “Parasite” awards all night (It’ll probably get international and editing). If you aren’t using your head predicting “1917” you’re following your heart and I admire you.

  14. The last time Bafta predicted Best Picture was 12 Years a Slave and that was a no brainer, that might be an indication of 1917's loss. It's going to Hollywood both picture and original screenplay, in that case I just wish Bong would win director, I really disliked 1917.

  15. To think that by winning best foreign movie Parasite may not win best movie is being very conservative. I understand where she comes from and Academy voters may think the same way. But in 2020 I expect better from them. 1917 is a good movie, but it's not the best one.

Bottom line: the best movie should win best movie, regardless of the fact that it wins best foreign movie.

  16. m leaning on a split between picture & director, once i learned parasite won the WGA…
i see Bong WILL get both Picture & Writing for sure, but the academy would give the best director to Mendes.
giving parasite the best picture would be historical for the academy..n WILL make a really big headline & for them..and it'll give em even more bold artistic merit internationally.
