  1. I'm sooo happy you guys are doing something together! Love you guys ❤ About Jojo Rabbit: I agree on both of your opinions. I really liked the movie, but because it's a satirical WW2 movie, I had a bit mixed feelings. Joker is my favorite movie, probably of all time. Parasite looks a bit like a horror movie, I don't watch horror movies, but what I've heard it's horror as well.

  2. I'm so excited for this channel! Really enjoyed your first video, especially to see your different opinions on things!

Now, because you asked for it my take on Jojo Rabbit:
I'm German, I've learned a lot about the war, the NS regime and the whole time surrounding it in school. I've learned even more about it through documentaries, books and articles. So I'm already a little bit biased because I'm genuienly interested in the topic and especially in individual human stories. And I personally have never seen this time from the perspective of an indoctrinated little German boy. I loved the different take on this! I think Taika Waititi is absolutely brilliant and I very much enjoyed his humor! I was a little worried beforehand just because it's such a sensitive topic especially here in Germany. You don't make jokes about it. You understand how horrendous it was. And you get really quiet and careful whenever it is brought up. And I don't think that's a bad thing! I just think that we really need a take on this topic that shines such a different light on it. Not with a different outcome because there's absolutely no discussion to be had about that. But this movie reminded me that the worst thing we can do to people like that (who are still very much here to this day) is to disarm them by showing them how absolutely stupid their views are. One laugh and it all crumbles. And I feel like Jojo Rabbit excellently held the balance between being a satire and also having absolutely no disscusion about the makings of those people. In addition to that I really loved Sam Rockwell's character! Gay lives are often left out when it comes to this time period and I feel like Captain K is such a strong character for that. So yes, I'm obsessed with this movie and I'm going to watch it again and again and again

  3. I feel like Parasite could definitely become a permanent comfort movie for me. I've seen it twice, and already, once the shock value is gone, I can pay more attention to all the hilarious little character moments, the brilliant camera work, the editing, etc. It feels a lot like some old Hitchcock masterpiece you can just sink into again and again.

Also, I think Marriage Story was a much better movie than y'all do. To me it was practically flawless. While the primary focus was Driver's character, to me it felt like this movie worked hard to show why his wife behaved as she did, and to show how Driver made everything worse again and again. But then, I thought Johannson was pretty great in this, too.

  4. If you're interested in more one-take films, Russian Ark (2002) dir. Aleksandr Sokurov is also shot in one take – and it actually was! (though I believe it took three or four takes to get the final version) it's a super gorgeous tour of the past few hundred years of Russian history filmed in the state hermitage museum in St Petersburg!

  5. Jojo Rabbit won the right thing. The book is dark and serious and while it also stays in the main character's "bubble" is more evocative of the wider world. Turning it into even a slightly successful satire is a huge feat!

  6. Went here after the awards. I wasn’t able to watch all the movies but I enjoyed the commentaries! Bryan’s response with Parasite’s ending is spot on! I felt like the writer ran out of steam but I enjoyed the film overall. I’m excited to watch more reviews from you two!

  7. Oh man I’m so curious about what Cece didn’t like about Parasite’s ending. Great video, and I’m so excited to see what y’all do with this channel!

  8. I loved this first video! I don't know what your plans for the channel are but I think that when you guys disagree on a film it's especially interesting to see you tease that out so it'd be cool to maybe see more videos about a clash of opinions in the future!

As for the nominees, in my heart and soul I want Little Women to win because I absolutely adored it but judging by how snubbed it's been this awards season I don't think it has a chance. I also HUGELY agree with you guys on Marriage Story – it felt like there was a point in the film where we really started to lose Nicole's balancing perspective and it was too slanted towards Charlie for a movie that's supposed to be about the two halves of this marriage. I didn't want Charlie to be demonised, but I think he should've come under more fire by the framing of the film than he did for it to feel honest.

  9. I haven't seen any, but hopefully I'll get Parasite from my library next week, so I kinda skipped that part.
I don't like watching movies much, but I like it when Bryan is in your vlogs, Cece, so I figure y'all talking about movies and media would be fun too. 🙂

  10. I’m so excited for more Cece & Bryan content!! I’m not much of a movie watcher but I love listening to people talk about things they’re passionate about. This was so well done and I’m looking forward to more 😀

  11. I haven't seen… any other oscar nom besides Parasite (tho i want to eventually see some mroe) … but Parasite was so good, I have to hope it wins.
