  1. XBOX ONE owners had to listen to toxic Sony fanboys about power for years so now toxic MS fanboys are getting their hits in. The rest of us who enjoy gaming on whatever system a good game are just waiting for games to be announced. I think the the only thing Sony had dropped the ball on is backwards compatibility. Not letting the potential 110 million PS4 owners know they can move their entire library over to PS5. Also the specs reveal Sony acted like MS hadnt yet revealed anything on Series X so it felt really weird in the Series X reveals wake.

  2. "Process: TSMC 7nm enhanced" means "Manufacturing Process: This chip was made by TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) using their second gen 7 nanometer transistors." This is what AMD is using right now and both consoles use AMD. Not really much to break down there. Not even sure why someone would bother to list it in a comparison.

  3. 2.5GB/sec I/O throughput on XBOX Series X vs. 5.5-9GB+/sec (Cerny explained that their custom solution supports Kraken at a hardware level). To me, and a Naughty Dog developer, having command over that much data so quickly will afford the PS5 unique capabilities and exclusives not possible on XBOX. Also, I know people think that the 3D audio "Tempest" engine Is a joke, but as an audiophile, higher quality audio, in whatever form, is always preferred.

  4. Love the commitment in putting together a pod from four different places. You're a dedicated, brilliant bunch. Thanks.

  5. All that matters is the the consoles are basically the same power and games. The problem is we dont know for sure that Sony will have the better games. It is unlikely but still possible that xbox creates better games next gen. But until I see that I'm going to have to stick with Sony.

  6. I don't even listen to PlayStation podcast, total xbro, just came here for the PlayStation tears, was not disappointed.
Now that I've got that out the way, now that I've had a bit more time to process the info, both of these machines will be pretty beast. It will all come down to how the developers utilize the SSD on the ps5 vs the 12 flops on the xsx

  7. I think people are missing the point. Sony got all the boring stuff out of the way. Microsoft has showed their hand and as time goes on the fickle minds of people these days will just forget but now Sony can show off the controller then show off their machine show some games and dominate the convo. Once they show off the system and games people won't even remember nor even talk about this reveal

  8. Great wrap up but I think you've missed the biggest thing that wasn't said by Cerny – VR. 3D audio is WAY more important in VR and I'm willing to bet that's why Sony went big on their Tempest sound engine. Most consumers won't notice a huge difference, but in VR it could make a huge difference in presence.

  9. This is what next-gen SSDs, instantaneous loading and no pop-in textures could do for gameplay:

Think about a really dense urban enviroment, like a market with lots of highly fleshed out npcs. Like in Cyberpunk 2077 or Elderscrolls 6.

Normally you couldn't have that many npcs or that detailed textures on npcs, spawning in and out because of load times. Now that bottleneck isn't there any more.

Or even wilder – imagine having an action or fight scene happening while traversing portals. Picture Ciri from the Witcher being chased through a series of portals taking her through many differt worlds, all in real time gameplay. This isn't possible with current gen tech.

  10. One big thing I hate is the "this was for the devs", but I'm gonna explain how drives work. If devs dont understand how mech hard drives work that's a big issue…. I also agree why not show demos /clips for each PowerPoint idea showing what it is.(other then 3d audio). Like Spider-Man demo you guys said.

  11. No consumer is saying that's it you got my money 8 months out when there's still so much to know. In 3 months time when Sony's unveiling first party games no one's gonna care about this presentation, and that will have way more impact on buying decisions than what Microsoft or Sony do now.

  12. I just love how every generation the hate starts soon as the games, everybody starts jumping back with Sony praising them it's going to be hilarious watching the flip flops ?

  13. Does Sony even have marketing department? Every person with half the brain would understand that you don't do shit like this after months of draught with no info about PS5 and next gen games.

  14. I feel like everyone is grabbing onto the 3D audio I wasn’t asking for better audio. The consoles have great audio now and 3D audio is an old feature on PC’s. I wanted more power and better graphics than PS4 Pro. Let’s stop pretending like 3D audio is the second coming and something we the consumers asked for and I personally don’t think it’s anything different than what Bose and other great audio companies are doing.

  15. Considering PS5 GPU is going to run at less than 2.28GHz most of the time (let's say 2.00GHz, which is still crazy high and very generous), Series X GPU is about 30% faster and will still have 44% more raytracing cores.

  16. Don't be so sure about their exclusive "blowing Microsoft out of the water", Brian…. Obsidian, Double Fine, inXile, Playground Games, Ninja Theory…. these are no jokes. On top of that, there will come a day when single-player only action-adventure games won't be so in vogue.

  17. I was very happy about the presentation. I'm sure it was not the most exciting from a marketing standpoint but I really appreciated the indepth approach and I think it's fun that we don't know how it looks like but we know everything about Cerny's ears. I have watched half of this analyzing thing now and mainly you guys talk about what you think other people think about this and go in circles round and round about this being a weird start and it was meant for GDC etc.. I really hope you have any thoughts soon on what was revealed, especially when you call it an analysis. Aside from that, I think this work-from-home-format works really well though.

  18. Beyond and welcome live stream!
1:21 the PS5 tech reveal – Mark Cerny loves his SSD…not so much console reveals
9:36 What was this show for? Was that fake audience even "real"?
11:54 Where is Sony's messaging at this year? Are they back to arrogant Sony of 2005?
    14:08 PS5's Backward Compatibility…somewhat?
17:05 Where is the rest of the info to get gamers "hyped"??
20:50 Where is the video for the actual "YouTube" audience in 2020?
24:09 Forget the Flops…gamers only want more "Audio"?? – Mark Cerny (Xbox currently has Dolby Atmos already and it's amazing!)
30:45 That SSD and the FLOPS talk…(or Mark Cerny damage control 101)
34:35 Power doesn't always matter if it's not easy to develop for. Is this the case with Sony's less CPU/GPU vs SSD speed? Hmm
    37:04 Infamous: Second Son
38:00 Developers are happy with the PS5 dev kit so far
38:52 What does Sony does next??
    42:09 What is everyone playing?
45:28 Memory Card: Tristan with making friends online

  19. When was the last time IGN did a graphics comparison video ????? Probably before the 1X came out. 90% of third party games look, and perform much better on the 1X then the pro.

  20. Oh yea forgot something series x will have ray tracing ps5 will have it too but won’t use it can’t unless you like playing 4K at 40 FPS

  21. That presentation seemed like a tip toe around the fact that the console unfortunately isn't up to par with the xbox…trying to spin it as more nimble and quick is def not what PS was hoping to be going for, but its what we're stuck with. AND WE STILL DONT HAVE A VISUAL OF THE CONSOLE ?

  22. You know the saying about going only as fast as the weakest link we’ll this case the ssd is super fast but it’s going to be waiting on the underpowered chipset the ssd ain’t doing the geometry and the mathematical calculations those under powered chips are.

  23. Between time stamp 31:5632:22 its alluded to that the teraflop calculation does not take into consideration the clock speed, however it does. Both the compute units and clock speeds are used in the Teraflop calculation. I feel the real advantage the PS5 will have over the Series X is tied to the extremely quick SSD and their smart use of it (not their GPU having a higher top end clock speed).

  24. Think Sony have missed a trick with this announcement, not even 1TB of storage and less Teraflops…..?? Only PS4 backwards compatibility…..jeez I really hope with their next announcement they surprise us all with a PS5 PRO to be launched on launch day or a really really improved PS Now that at least rivals the Xbox game pass……and at least give us full backwards compatibility from psone to ps4 like xbox are doing with their new console

  25. Surprised no one commented on how the PlayStation 5 Architecture will change Gameplay design with level loading because of their custom SSD and data priority. It’s not just about how quick the title screens load, but how map and level design can now be more meaningful. Designers can do away with corridoring or adding moments in games that serve only to load and unload data, increasing FPS is always a popular ask but also consider how this would enable other QOL features like FOV sliders. I felt Sony’s approach was more about how they want to allow devs to make impactful changes to the gaming experience not just adding higher fidelity graphics. This is something that even the mighty pc platform hasn’t even tried to do with its far more dynamic and powerful specs. That’s what i really like about Sony is their innovation around enhancing a gameplay experience and not just copy paste pc approach. It’s genuine system arch design for a gaming experience.
