A few notes:
Wow.. Really going with some upsets in the acting categories. This year the bets are pretty safe for Dern, Pitt, Zelwegger and Phoenix. They have all swept the precursor awards (GGs, Critics Choice, BAFTA, and most reliable precurosr, the SAGs).
Also, the shorts have all been available online for a while with the exception of St. Louis Superman, which is one of only 2 noms this year I haven't seen, either on Vimeo or Youtube. Every year, you can buy them on Amazon or Itunes for like 7-8 dollars for almost the whole set. (I haven't looked for this year's but, the last few years, that's how I've been able to see them before the Oscars.)
American Factory was filmed in Dayton, Ohio, which is about the same size as Springfield, MO. Not really a small town. 😉
Believe it or not, but, Parasite is probably my least favorite of the Foreign nominees this year. I've not seen Les Miserables, which is named that as it takes place in the same city that Victor Hugo wrote the novel, and isn't an adaptation of the story. If Pain and Glory wasn't going up against such a heavyweight in this category, it'd probably win. Honeyland, Pain and Glory and Corpus Christi are all bleak as hell, though, but, I'm usually drawn to stuff like that..
I haven't really thought of my picks this year, but, 1917 would be my pick for Picture.
