  1. the problem is not the oscars. the problem is that women don't have the same support as men do when pursuing a career. that's why there are so few women directors. and of course since the majority of directors are male, statistically speaking the majority of good directors and implicitly directors who are nominated for awards will be males. when more women feel encouraged to pursue different careers we will see a natural change in other things like oscar nominations. you have to find a different way to encourage this, not by forcing nominations and awards.

if you look specifically at this category this year … what woman could come in and who should be taken out of the five nominees? maybe put in greta and take out todd phillips.. but it's 50/50 at best … it just happened that she had less votes. i'm sure it wasn't by a lot. by the way it's votes it's not a committee that decides what happens… if i were to vote top directors this year maybe I would put greta gerwig at 5 ..maybe i would put her at 4 … maybe at 6 ..

  2. No one wants a job, promotion, college degree, certificate, diploma, Oscar, or any other award he or she didn't righteously earn and work hard to deserve. Like white people, others in America just want an opportunity to prove their amazing talent and get acknowledged for it. To think otherwise is to suggest only whites could ever be good enough to earn recognition. People who wrongly accuse women and people of color of wanting Oscars simply because of their identity are perpetrating a white-supremacist superiority complex. You are completely delusional if you think that only white people are capable of being the best actors, the best directors, the best teachers, the best doctors, the best engineers, the best at everything. If you have no interest in change and you'd never question what's really going on with how decisions are made, then just admit to being partial and biased. Admit America conditions us all to perceive white people as being the standard of excellence because no one talks about "identity politics" or the "race card" when whites are winning awards in mass. It's as if people think whites are entitled to win by default. White people winning everything all the time is America's "norm". And if you're really going to be honest and true with yourselves, then you could ask yourselves why are things this way in America.

  3. Lol. "Women directors?!"

Oh I get it! Their husbands show up on set and whisper from behind a tree prop what they need to do. Got it! ????

  4. I mean…I wouldn't really count it as a burn but really it just depends on the movies people release. Imagine if Joker had been directed by a female? Personally, I could care less about gender (I'm a woman) because I am more interested in the film and the passion a director puts into their film.

  5. Despite all the comment toxicity, TYT is reaching 5million subs and has never been more successful. So happy for them!

Keep up the support youtube trolls. The extra ad rev is nice.

  6. this is why hollywood is in the mess that its in. becuase it chooses to play the game of identity politics. you should NEVER win an award simply becuase of who you are i.e BLACK, FEMALE, GAY or what ever else. you should win an award becuase you DESERVED to win that award. this is what happens when you try to fill a quota based off of identity as your main focal point for that recognition, that's just tokenism. i'm a black man i wouldn't want to be given an oscar simply becuase of the colour of my skin rather then my performance in that role, its an insult. this is what people you 'regressives' fail to understand. hollywood has fallen into this trap of intersectionality and identity politics. its a dangerous and divisive political viewpoint. i'm sick and tired of this 'WOKE' crap. it shouldn't be called woke it should be called unwoke because it is such a regressive and backward way of thinking. "poor me poor me give me an oscar becuase i'm black i'm a woman, i'm gay". you don't get an oscar for being WHO YOU ARE….you get an oscar for acting your ass off for portraying someone YOU ARE'NT. why should anybody get an oscar on the basis of race, gender etc?. i don't consider myself to be someone on the (right or left) of the political spectrum….i consider myself to be a centrist, but i have noticed alot of this identity poilitics is pushed and promoted by you leftists as well as hollywood. identity politics is very dangerous & very divisive.

  7. Isn't that the racist woman from last year who said she's "Rooting for everyone black"?

    Don't think it's racist?

So I'd assume you have no issue with a white woman saying she is "Rooting for everybody white this year".
    🙂 exactly.

  8. Nobody has an issue with the hair and makeup nominations or whatever that category is. Mostly women, but nothing? Of course not.
    Racism, is normal today.
    Sexism, is normal today.
As long as you attack White Men, You're golden. Attacking anyone else, you're a racist, sexist, bigot, xenophobe.
Regressives (who claim to be progressive) are the most bigoted people in the civilized world.

  9. Lets be real, men will never see woman as equal, treat them equally, or uplift them in the work place. I mean if you had all that power would you give it up? Now lets see all the men who get angry about this comment, show that same energy regarding the snubbing of woman and people of color in the Oscars.

  10. I am a female, who thinks that through out history Men worked, Men are working, Men Will always work. What that hell do we want that man go home and seat on their sofa, watch us do the job and then complain because they ain't doing nothing. I am so sick of complains from everyone i am so fed up already.

  11. It』s also to do with MONEY. They do not put a lot of money into Female directed movies. That』s why they get snubbed in the Oscar money game. Until they start putting more money behind women it won』t change

  12. Hey guys, can we separate the history of pain, neglect and mistreatment of black people in America and throwing in this people of color thing. IT'S NOT THE SAME!

  13. Honestly, the new version of Little Women was not good. The whole movie waxes nostalgic about family hardship and love, but doesn't spend enough time developing the character relationships to bring the audience in on those feelings. It focuses very heavily on the main characters' struggle as a writer. A more feminist view for sure, but it missed the sense of camaraderie that the 90s movie and book had.

  14. Reading through the comments and I think a lot of people are completely missing the underlying issue, which is that when a studio has a script it thinks is Oscar worthy, has a few big name actors/actresses attached to it, and are willing to shell out a big budget and market the hell out of it, they almost always give those directing gigs to men.

The proof is in the films that have won just 5 women an Oscar nomination for best director. Most are low budget independent films that were so good and such unexpected smash hits because of what those female directors did with them that they couldn't be denied an Oscar nod.

  15. I thought all those movies mentioned were deserving of an oscar. Can someone name some movies directed by women that should have been nominated? Not starting a gender war here. Im legitimately asking because the competition this year was pretty stacked.

  16. I thought it was funny ??‍♂️. I think it makes sense. There』s plenty of great people of different backgrounds out there with great merit who still don』t get recognized.

  17. Awkwafina won for Actress Comedy/Musical at the globes, do your research. And you literally pointed out Gerwig was nominated 2 years ago for Director. I agree more women need to make more movies, more awards movies, etc. But this year was stacked come on. Scorsese, Tarantino, Joker was all over the internet, 1917 has the one shot gimmick, etc. There's more serious problems in Hollywood than this.

  18. Lol Noah Baumbach and Taika Waititi deserve Best Director more than Gerwig. Some people just need to stop concentrating on what is between someone's legs.
