What is the point of using an established IP to make a film that is about 10% (if we are lucky) of the source material?

If you have a generic film script just shoehorn in a well loved IP from before your wife was born and desecrate any fondness that people had for the original IP. But hey you sold a few more tickets than you would have if you went with the original title… Hollywood is a cesspool.
