Is a thunderbolt external drive usb 3.0 really gonne help speeding up? I can't upgrade my ram in my MacBook pro late 2013, if have to get a new one soon?
Can you please explain why you don』t choose the optimized media option when importing? Thanks for this video by the way!!
My CPU usage is only at 30%, that's what I get for getting a 2018 MacBook Pro W/ T-2 Chip~
I did the proxy and it fucked up all my files everything went over exposed and went down to shit. i had to uninstall my software cuz it just hanged. smh
#8. Hide waveform.
Very helpful advice. Thank you very much. I have the same specs on my laptop and it is getting really slow. I can't afford an upgrade at the moment. So one more time, respect.????
This worked so well thanks!!!
Nice. SImple, yet overlooked ideas.
These did not do anything, I have a video I made on my DJI OSMO and it lags my 2018 MacBook Pro on Final Cut Pro X way to much I cannot edit it.
Tips 2, 4 & 5 are extremely helpful! Thanks TONS!!!
Three years later, and still a great video thanks for making this excellent tips and strategy

Great video as usual! I"m running 10.4.3 on a 27' iMac 4GHz / Core i7 / 32GB Ram. External drive is a Promise Pegaus running RAID 5 or 6 (i can't remember). anyway, i have to reboot FCPX every hour or so because it is at 2-5GB of RAM and doesn't run well. My old Mac Mini with half the power never did this. I'm using optimized and Proxy
Do you still need to use proxy if you run from a suoerfast SSD external drive? Is it needed?
Thanks a lot for this video!
Thanks you were much clearer about these things than others have been.
Just wanted to say thanks. Your tips saved my (editing) life. 12 year old iMac with an SSD but limited scope to upgrade the RAM. TWO. THUMBS. UP.
I did the proxy thing, and it said no media in my timeline? any idea why??
Well done!!
THANKS!! This is very helpful! Great Video!

thanks man. you have saved my life haha
Thanks man! This is very helpful!
This worked! i was beginning to give up hope so thank you
Great tips! Only knew about half of those. Thanks!
Amazing tutorial Kaleb!! Thank you!!
when i sped up 20x it looks crystal clear in my final cut, but when uploaded to youtube it gets pixelated like the quality drops
Switched over to proxy but rendering is still extremely slow.
Just what I needed!
Since I upgraded to 10.3.4 when I render I am only using oboist 50% of my CPU power i7 4 Cores!!!! Previous version would use 90+% how to get more CPU usage???
Thanks for this is very useful for me
Thank you so much for this helpful tutorial. BTW Can you create proxy files out of the files you have already imported in fcpx? I don't want to have to reimport them. Thanks.
which speeds up your work flow? proxy or optimized?
im using a 2010 macbook lol
I bought iMac 4.2ghz i7 with 2TB HD and 40GB of Ram. Everything was working perfectly with proxy until half year ago. IDK what happened but preview on my imported media are not smooth and if I press proxy on 50GB media it takes 500GB of my hard drive to make that preview work smooth… Any ideas??? Is there something wrong that I can change in my FCPX settings??? Its just frustrating that its not working the way it was before… :/
poxy media takes up a lot of space
Awesome video bro! Thank you so much!
Thanks that was great.
I just got a new Macbook Pro 12" and had been struggling with playback speeds. Thanks so much for these tips they are amazing and you have no idea how they are going to impact me. Thank you!
Thank you!
JUST GET TO IT!!!!! Don't tell me the problem. Video starts at https://youtu.be/H3W5LuvYN4Y?t=43s (everything before it is a waste of time)
