  9. I like Octavia and that why I watched this tv show and I am disapointed…did they do research before doing this tv show? ….Rockefeller was a racist ….why is he there talking nicely to a black women

  10. I endorse this movie over movies like Harriet and Selma. Too often we reflect on the dark and horrible moments of black history that serves us absolutely no purpose other than to reinforce emotional and psychological trauma.
    Self Made 「The Madam CJ Walker」 story is not only a narrative we need more of, but it tells the trails and successes of a black woman in a time that could have resulted in her being lynched and still she thrived and not only became this countries first black millionaire, she left a blueprint of how to succeed economically and survive systemic racism. We need to endorse telling more of these stories of black history that we can actually use in our everyday lives today.
    However, I find it offensive that they narrated a story of Madam CJ Walkers daughter being a lesbian. After researching, I found that not only was her daughter a mother, she was married to a Dr. James Arthur Kennedy until her death in 1931. As a gay black male, I understand creating a world of social acceptance, but we should not be narrating gay story lines that tarnish the reputations of people who are no longer alive to tell their side of the story. Totally unacceptable.

  14. Finally, a series that inspires people of color to become successful. You have to realize that you, and only you, can believe in. When you believe in yourself, instead of taking in other people's opinions, you can do anything.

  25. I can dig that period pieces can be stale but dang that soundtrack and other modern to date references just didn"t work for me. It was jarring and didn't flow at times. They should have committed whole heartedly to the period of time soundtrack and all. Boxing scenes were useless

  26. They leave out the part about her being an activist in the Republican Party. She fought for African American rights with the Republicans. Do a google search and try to find out what political party she belonged to. Sad they left out the truth.

  27. Watch the real story of C. J. Walker, in a documentary on YouTube. It didn't go down like this. And it has dignified blacks who were THERE helping to keep it real.

  30. AMAZING WOMAN! I did a research project on her for Black History Month and she is so amazing! I』m not black but she is a huge role model as I am also a woman of color.

  31. I am happy to see black actors/actresses and producers create the opportunity to present an iconic woman such as Madam C J Walker. However, i was a little disappointed with some of the "creative license" taken to further certain current day agendas. More specifically, i didn't care for the license taken with Madam Walker's bakstage exchange with Booker T Washington … during which he was portrayed as chauvinist. From most histotical accounts I've read his issue was that he felt her industry promoted making black women look white not that black men should come before black women. That said, why shoe horn in yet another trope to make a black man (in this case a well known and revered one) look bad just to say Black Women rock. It can be said without villifying a positve historic figure. Brothas have a hard enough time being villified for many other things … so it doesn't help to manufacture negative tropes. Its irresponsible … people will see that and think that is what he was. Oops the legacy of another accomplished black man bites the dust. Also, was Alelia Walker really a lesbian herself or just a friend to the LBGTQ community?

  32. Bad Enough the movie is full of inaccuracies half truths and out right Bald Face lies, Then you drag out the old racist trope of The evil Villainous Black man. I bet the reason why you all canceled Luke Cage Because it must've made the Netflix exes Stomachs turn collectively to See a black man in a positive light

    So she basically made a fortune on an other person』s work ! The hair grower wasn』t her invention she stole it ! And didn』t even admit it until the end of her days .
