  1. Re: tablets and long term support – I recently got an email from Slack telling me they are pulling support for Android devices running OSes older than Android 8 and that my device would soon stop being able to use Slack. I was racking my brain trying to figure out what they mean – all of my stuff is at least Android 10. But then I remembered – Oh! They mean my Lenovo Tab 2, the 2015 device running Android 5 that I still get great use off – great battery life and still useful for browsing the web, reading ebooks and email, playing X-Com and yes – chatting with customers while in bed.

So you can take it both ways – the are great Android tablets that are not expensive (iirc it was $250 new) and you can get a great mileage out of, OTOH, it got 1 (!!) OS upgrade and is boot locked so I can't install an alternative OS while an iPad from that era got 5 major OS upgrades and can still run relatively up to date operating system.

  2. I like the concept of wireguard, but every time I use it it works fine until I have to restart my router. Then no amount of starting, restarting, googling, uninstalling / reinstalling, etc. will fix it. I have the server set to a static IP so it's not a DHCP issue, and NTP is set up so it shouldn't be that issue either.
