《新闻自由的政治经济学：台湾与中国的悖论》一书的作者黄在年补充说：“中国影响台湾媒体的努力已经进行了相当长的时间。某些台湾媒体已经受到财务控制。通过推动中国的宣传，轻描淡写或无视中国认为敏感的故事，已经成为中国政府实现某些政治目标的本地工具。”
中国对台湾的拉锯战可以追溯到1949年。那一年，中国共产党推翻了由国民党领导的中国政府，迫使其逃往台湾。此后，该岛实际上已享有与大陆的独立性，但北京在雄心勃勃地夺回该领土（如有必要用武力夺回领土）方面从未言过。
在过去的70年中，中国一直在入侵台湾，建立密切的经济关系，在台湾海峡部署导弹，并参与台湾的政治事务，特别是通过在台湾媒体上的影响。
当台湾人在今年年初抗议“红色媒体”时，他们的主要目标是旺旺组织。旺旺的媒体，包括著名的《中国时报》和广播电视台CTiTV，均被指责为中国共产党的媒体喉舌，推动公然支持北京的宣传。
随着明年1月的总统大选临近，台湾许多人担心中国利用旺旺来影响选举，并使其首选的对华友好候选人汉国于当选。
“红色媒体”抗议组织者之一黄国昌告诉《听力邮报》的约翰娜·霍斯：“从理论上讲，任何渗透我们民主的媒体公司都在我们的雷达上。但是，旺旺集团无疑是我们的主要目标。自2008年该集团董事长蔡英文（Tsai Eng-meng）接管《中国时报》和CTiTV以来，旺旺的媒体一直在宣传中国的宣传。统一。”

Taiwan needs to concentrate on the elite billionaire take over of that island nation. The same problems that Hong Kong faces, so does Taiwan. Both places have been captured by the ultra wealthy. Both play to the wealthy interests. Both have sky rocketing cost and exspenses for the 70 to 80% of the people living there. Both are seeing a tsunami of homelessness and older and often retired having to do extraordinary things to bring in pennies to survive. Land and housing is rapidly gone well beyond what the majority can afford. And like Hong Kong, Taiwan plays to western powers to crush the PEOPLE. China may be a bad actor in both cases. But China is not the root cause of the pain struggle, and desperation of the majority. It is the Hong Kong & Taiwanese government. Who actively work against the people they are supposed to represent. And the USA and Western countries are hard at work to copy both countries, while playing a active role in the sqeezing of people in both places.

The government sitting in Taiwan is called Republic of China (ROC) claiming to be the legitimate of China which controls all Chinese territories in the mainland including Tibet, bit of border towns with Indian, South China Sea, Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang. However the government has lost the civil war when CCP defeated the KMT in 1949. KMT fled to the outskirt island of the Chinese island called Taiwan. This island was occupied by Japan in WW2. The CCP won because it liberated China's peasants from tyranny by the warlords and formed the People's Public of China (PRC) to govern china. For a long time ROC sat as a permanent member of the UN Security Council until the UN recognised PRC as the legitimate government of China. The narratives by this and other western media seems to be all twisted.
