  1. Well kiss that factory and it’s technology goodbye. China has no interest in letting any US company succeed on its soil. They have been treating us like an enemy while we have been treating them like a friend and there’s no reason to think that that will change

Super stoked for what this means for TSLA in the next few years, but you point out one risk that bears more investigation: what is the impact of China taking (stealing) what they learn from Gigafactory 3 and applying that knowledge to Chinese auto and energy industries? Will China be reproducing TSLA battery tech and selling it to VW and all the other Tesla-wannabes?

  4. Love your stuff. I thought the same thing when I heard the China exemption announcement. Still concerned about a US recession and the Tesla debt levels. I wish Mr. Musk would explain how Tesla would survive a recession, what their "in case of emergency, break glass" plans are. I have to imagine it is also on their minds.

Elon Musk and his help are just uncovering AMAZING AND MOST WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITIES and bringing them to life ! I think the sincerity of the Chinese culture naturally attracts people like Elon Musk and vice versa. Thank you so much for your enthusiasm !

  6. Running a business has risks. Running a business in foreign country has bigger risk. Maybe you've forgotten about the US businesses having forced to leave Venezuela. With China flexing its military muscle(creating an island military base) and with the increase in trade war, I wonder the thoughts going through the Tesla executive's minds. If Apple had a to pulled out of China, I don't think it well be a big of a lost to Apple as compared to Tesla's lost caused by a forced pull out of Tesla, due to geopolitical uncertainties and sanctions.

    Ask cellphone companies when they where so happy building their phones with minimal cost in China and now we got Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo… Eating the market!

  16. Be careful! China not just want Tesla's technologies, but also want to control Elon and Space X in the future! Because Space X and Starlinks are potential risks for China to control the internet and space technologies.

  18. The best thing to do is manufacture your car in the country it will be sold in. Also I'm sure China will steal elon's intellectual property and start shipping electric cars to the United States at a fraction of the cost. That's what China does, steal IP and make the product wat cheaper and sell it back to the original country.

  20. Sorry Chyna really has the technology that Tesla wants for the batteries it’s BYD electronics produces the most cost effective and quality batteries in the world and teslas looking at using them in their vehicles in North America also

    BYD is a much larger electronic vehicle manufacture then Tesla it is growing exponentially just supply the entire market with a much more advanced technological vehicle

  21. China's gov't supports cutting tech while US corporate state-led powers sabotage for oils sake leaving China to leap frog the US using our own tech personified by Tesla.

  26. I hope I'm wrong but I never predict good outcomes when western companies expand into China. It generally ends in IP theft and the Chinese gov creating random regulation and legal hurdles which make it impossible to operate

  27. China plays the long game. Smart of them. They certainly want the tech.I suspect they have already reverse engineered it.

    Couple of really good comments below.

    They want the technology. With the gigafactory which Elon pays for at least in part. ,they get the tech on a large scale. The upside for China and Elon are mutual at least initially.

    This could be an economic disruption in the west for EVs.. They want to be exporters. They are still far cheaper than the west for labor. This gives them a serious advantage in the west.

    The long run issues. China does not honor copyright. There will be 5-10 knock offs within 5 years.

    Also if and when they have gotten everything they can from Elon, he will lose his stake in the factory and they will control or cut his access to the market.

    It will definitely be good for a while.

China does not believe in "intellectual rights"!… China believes that everyone else's intellectual rights is "open source" for China!… You have no International rights in China you are beholden to China's court system and it's always biased against foreigners! Do the research on this… China believes whatever Investments come into China stays in China!… And 5 to 8 years from now Elon will be "given an offer that he can't refuse" as the old mafia bosses would say! You will give us ownership of Shanghai Tesla and walk away alive, or Maybe we'll give you a warning we're going to put roadblocks and tax you until you give ownership up to the party… The evil red communist chinese government will suck the blood out of Tesla like they're currently doing to Boeing!

  29. Sadly, Tesla is going to get scammed just like every other company that has tried to operate from china. Have a look at the German experience for example. All he's doing is giving them the technology on a platter..

  30. Thanks for the video, it has been an amazing story already in the China Tesla news and it really is only just starting. I expect to see Model 3 churning out of the factory gates in early 2020 and at a good and acceptable standard. LG in Japan will have their part to play in the supply and production of additional batteries. The Chinese location is superbly positioned to export out from the new factory to neighbouring countries to mop up demand in the ASEAN bloc. Tesla are also looking at a German location to produce in Europe and it looks like a lot of the German manufacturers have been caught with their pants down as they are well behind the curve on EV production. I'm sure we will hear more of this in in 2020. So despite the naysayers I remain very positive and upbeat about the Tesla future and whilst EM can be an idiot at times I guess all of us have to have downtime sometime. Looking for some more projections of the effect of all this on the bottom line, debt position and future profits. Great stuff!

    Tesla should support USA
    And when everything goes back to normal it’s ok to do business with other nation
    Business are business
    But family is family
    USA is family you need to support family first but if you want china it’s ok don’t comeback home asking for opportunity bc we the people won’t buy your cars
