  1. It's either they give the Oscar for Supporting Actress to Dern's overhyped performance or to Kathy Bates as a sort of honorary one and a consolation prize for her performance in Primary Colors in '98.

  2. I hope Anthony Hopkins gets it, even though I have only seen The Two Popes, but his acting is so delicious. I guess the problem is everyone has gotten used to that.

  3. Laura Dern is amazing and all, but SHE DOESN’T EVEN DESERVE A NOMINATION. It wasn’t anywhere near Oscar-worthy, she was by far better in Wild.

  4. i just saw marriage story, i think Ray Liotta as that douchy lawyer should've gotten the nod instead of Pacino as Hoffa, which is a total MISCAST.
Liotta, on the other hand was just hilarious..n it could serve as a consolation nod to make up for academy's flub in NOT nominating him as Henry Hill for GoodFellas, back in 1990.
WHAT?! he wasn't nominated for THAT movie..?! yup, he wasn't… crazy, right..?? that's Oscars for ya…. ?‍♂️

  5. From what I've seen, I'd go to Kathy Bates and between Joe and Al. Yeah, Brad is great, but I think his role is less difficult than the one of this two. I'll be happy if he wins but he deserved more for "Benjamin Button" or "Fight Club". I haven't seen Dafoe but he seems to have been robbed. Such a pity

  6. Margot Robbie is like the 3rd player of an NBA team with the best record– being selected to the All-Star game. She was fine. She would never deserve to win this. 20 years from now, no one's gonna be like OMG REMEMBER MARGOT IN 'BOMBSHELL'…

  7. I know Dern will win but for me Johansson deserves it more for Jojo Rabbit. She was great in it and my heart broke for her. Dern's performance lacks depth.

  8. Well yeah, it's the supporting category, so Laura Dern's part doesn't have to be a big one in the movie. Meanwhile Brad Pitt, to me, felt at least like the co-lead of OUATIH. I would even go as far as to say that he was the lead while Leo was a step behind because Brad Pitt totally stole the show in that one.

  9. Sometimes I’m surprised when the Oscars agree with me and don’t give it to the contenders everyone is saying will win. This year that’s Laura Dern for me. #MeToo monologue aside, she played a 2 dimensional character and was no different to a lawyer from Law & Order. I have a feeling Florence Pugh or Scarlet Johannsen will be a “shock” win, because their roles were far better.

  10. This year these categories are really bored. There aren’t performances that U cans say: wao, there’s no discussion about the winners. I mean, kinda Moniqu’e, Allison Janey, Patricia Arquette, that we’re performances that really go utterly perfect. But Laura Dern was like…. ok, is a correct job but it’s all.

  11. I don’t know why everyone wants Dern to win? She was in the movie for 5 mins and the character lacked any sort of depth. To me she doesn’t even qualify as a supporting actress.

  12. When I watched Marriage Story, I didn’t think that Laura Dern was the stand out in the film, in fact, I found her character uninteresting and annoying, especially when compared to Scarlett Johansson’s and Adam Driver’s performances, who were both phenomenal

  13. So I've not watched every movie that were awarded this year in the festival circuit and keep seeing the who's who and what's what that should've been nominated but if you could make a short list of 5 for each major category, what and who would that be? I mean, it's easier to say who should be included in the nominees but who should you take out in place of the one you wanted to get nominated?
