  1. My theory as to why Song Kang Ho was not nominated is because the film's executive did not submit their nomination on his behalf. If you look at how they marketed this movie, you can tell that the executives and PR crew want everyone to focus on these traits:

    1. The houses, the stairs, the pathways and their meaning to the film (Production Design)
    2. The best montage of 2019 – the Peach scene (Editing)
    3. The story, the twists and reveals, the characters (Screenplay)
    4. Bong Joon Ho (Directing and Film)

As you can see, these are very strong submissions. They did not submit Song and Cinematography because chances are in both categories they may lose. And even if Song Kang Ho wins, chances are the voters may not give more votes to Parasite in the other artistic categories. If my theory is correct, this is a bold strategic move. Parasite is a foreign film. And as a foreign film, the PR team is doing a great job in choosing its battles and, so far, winning when they matter most.

I hope Parasite wins Best Picture. I have seen all 9 films. And I have issues in most of the other eight (OUATIH, Irishman, Joker, and 1917).

  2. Man I've been saying JLO would miss the BAFTA and then miss the Oscar literally since the globes nominations. But I thought they would put Nicole Kidman in over Kathy Bates

  3. 19:35

The Oscar nominations are always done early (5am in Los Angeles) so that the East Coast media (where it's already 8am) has time to publish the nominations list for everyone on their smartphones first thing in the morning. The Academy wants their nominations list to be one of the first things people read about at the beginning of the day when they're on their way to (or at) work. It's about creating buzz and getting people talking about it for the rest of the day. That's also why they always do the announcement on a Monday morning. The Academy also wants to be the first big story of the week, which makes sense. The Academy is all about promoting itself and being "relevant" in pop culture.

  4. "Why is 1917 at the bottom?"

Because it should be. Love it when numerical titles are alphabetized by how they're spelled and not placed at the beginning or the end of lists.

  5. not surprising to me that 1917 missed editing or Apollo 11 in Best Documentary. The Academy is notorious for not nominating one-takes for editing (Birdman) or old footage docs (Won't You Be My Neighbor). at least we know that's a consistent stat to hold onto for the future.

  6. Stings:
    1. Greta Gerwig
    2. Taron Egerton
    3. 'Rocketman' and 'Dolemite' (costumes)

    Happy for:
    1. Knives Out (Screenplay)
    2. Jonathan Pryce
    3. Scarlett Johansson (only 12th person in history to be a double nominee in an Oscar night)

Not totally surprised J.Lo missed. 'Hustlers' is not exactly the movie the Academy would gravitate towards. Although she does give an incredible performance some might not think it was too much of a stretch.

  7. But I agree with you- I liked both Once Upon a Time and Joker, but those are the only two I’d be meh about winning Best Picture. Would’ve loved if Knives Out got that 10th nomination.

  8. Everyone keeps saying that the Irishman is falling, but keep in mind, it got 10 nominations, and in almost every branch of the Academy, meaning that each branch thinks highly of it. The DeNiro snub sucks, but with all of those voting bodies potentially voting for The Irishman, I’d still put it in the top 3-5. I actually think Once Upon a Time fell a bit because it didn’t get an editing nomination, meaning that branch isn’t high on it.

  9. Jlo is the Timothée chalamet of this year. He got everything but BAFTA (I thiiiiink) he was a “front runner” and for snubbed for beautiful boy
