Best Picture – 1917, Ford V Ferrari, Joker, Jojo Rabbit, Marriage Story, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Parasite, The Irishman (add Little Women if there are 9 nominees). Best Director – Greta Gerwig, Bong Joon-Ho, Sam Mendes, Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino Best Actor – Antonio Banderas, Leonardo DiCaprio, Adam Driver, Taron Egerton, Joaquin Pheonix Best Actress – Scarlett Johansson, Nupita Nyong'o, Saoirse Ronan, Charlize Theron, Renee Zellweger Supporting Actor – Tom Hanks, Song Kang-Ho, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Brad Pitt Supporting Actress – Laura Dern, Jennifer Lopez, Florence Pugh, Margot Robbie, Zhao Shuzhen
Those are my predictions…You have great choices too. Looking forward to tomorrow morning. Good Luck!!!
The actor in Parasite is Song Kang-Ho, who played the father in the Kim family. He is HUGE in South Korea, and he won the award at LA Film Critics. He might get that surprise nomination, but that's also just my wishful thinking lol
Okay Susan…these are my absolute unequivocal final picks… Picture: Parasite Once upon a Time in Hollywood 1917 The Irishman Marriage Story Jo Jo Rabbit Little Women Joker Ford v Ferrari The Farewell Director: Mendes Tarantino Bong Joon Ho Scorsese Almodovar Actor: Phoenix Driver DiCaprio Banderas Egerton Actress: Zellwegger Theron Johansson Awkwafina Ronan Supp Actor: Pitt Pesci Pacino Hanks Song Kang Ho Supp Actress: Dern Robbie Lopez Pugh Shuszhen
I wouldn't count out Knives Out, Richard Jewell and Ford v Ferrari for various nominations. I think both Cathy Bates and JLO will score nods for supporting though not Scarlett Johanson. I see Antonio over Egerton and a possible nominations for Adam Sandler, Christian Bale and Paul Walter Hauser. I think DeNiro and Eddie Murphy will be overlooked. And I hope Little Women scores little; it's popular at the BO, but I didn't like it.
I'm so excited for the Oscar nominations, I'm hoping Jennifer Lopez gets her first Oscar nomination.
Still need to see some of the big ones. I know Once Upon A Time In Hollywood will probably get nominated but that's the one I have least interest in. I think Adam Sandler should get a nomination. All I know is Missing Link shouldn't win.
Thank you Susan for your predictions. Best Actor: Antonio Banderas, Adam Driver, Taron Egarton, Joaquin Phoenix and I’m predicting Leo DiCaprio getting snubbed with Adam Sandler shocking everyone with a nomination. ( fingers crossed ?). I agree on you with Scarlett Johansson will get double nominations for Actress and Supporting Actress. JLO will get snubbed. Willem Defoe will get the nomination for Supporting Actor.
The Oscars have a rule that a performer cant be nominated twice in the same category. So even if Margot Robbie had both her performances in the top 5 – the lowest one will be disqualified. This supposedly happened to Diane Keaton in 1977, when her performances in ANNIE HALL and LOOKING FOR MR> GOODBAR both finished in the top 5, but the later one was dumped. The also have a strange rule called the Barry Fitzgerald rule. In 1944 he was nominated for both best actor and best supporting actor for the same role in GOING MY WAY. To prevent this happening again if a particular performance finishes in the top 5 in both leading and supporting = the category which has less overall votes is discounted. A few examples – Susan Sarandon says she voted for herself for supporting actress in ATLANTIC CITY at the nomination stage and was stunned than she got more votes for the leading category. Keisha Castle Hughes was a expected nominee for supporting actress in WHALE RIDER – but wound up as leading actress as she had more votes in that category. So Robbie will only figure twice if she gets both a leading and supporting nomination.
Good picks…I thought the same thing about JLo—the Oscars don’t like singers who act (I mean they totally ignored Madonna in Evita) but I’m leaving her in (I might change before Monday). The Academy has a rule that actors can’t compete against themselves (so Margot Robbie WON’T get a nomination for OUATIH…thank goodness). And they like Willem Dafoe so you might be right there but I’m sticking with Hopkins for now. It could also be the supporting actor from Parasite (the dad).
According to academy rules, no actor can be nominated in a same category twice. So margot only can be nominated for bombshell not OUATIH.
The actor from Parasite is Song Kang Ho. He could get a surprise nomination if the Oscars love Parasite, despite missing major precursors. We will see on Monday morning.
I am predicting 9 nominees for Best Picture with Little Women in the no. 8 slot and Ford v Ferrari in no. 9. For Best Actor I have Banderas as my 5th nominee with Pryce and Bale being the alternatives and I think Robert DeNiro still has a shot. For Best Supporting Actor I am predicting Song Kang Ho from Parasite as my 5th nominee with Anthony Hopkins and William Dafoe being the alternatives. For Best Director I am predicting Greta Gerwig as my 5th nominee. For Supporting Actress I have Dern, Margot(Bombshell), Lopez, Scarlett and Pugh(Little Women).
For Oscars double nomination in same category can't happen as they have a rule against it. BAFTA does not have that rule that's why Margot Robbie got nominated twice in same category.
I agree that Little Women will probably be snubbed by Ford v. Ferrari, I don’t know. I hated Bombshell, but sadly I think it may get nominated. I think The Farewell could very well get it too. It’s getting best director and screenplay hype, and after the Globes upsets, it could be on its way.
