  1. As one of the few who has not seen this movie yet, it does not surprise me at all it won so many oscars. South Korea has been pushing out amazing movies for decades. Years ago I remember telling someone that some of the best movies I had ever watched were Korean. Also not surprised it was a film directed by Bong Joon-ho as he has made such great movies in the past.

  2. I cried watching your review because it's my first time watching all his acceptance speeches. Like many people, I stopped watching the Oscars for obvious reasons. The sheer bullshittery. I got my news on twitter and was so happy for Bongnim. Why did I cry? The way he looked at his Oscar. He could breathe. His work was finally being acknowledged. After being brainwashed by western media to think Korea was all about students committing suicide, I stumbled upon a little show called The Return of Superman. I got so curious and soon went down the rabbit hole of dramas, reality shows, movies and BTS. I could not believe what I had been missing because of being insulated/blinded/assumptions and was left in complete awe. BTS brought his movie Snowpiercer to my attention. It has American actors like Olivia Spencer and Koreans as well but mostly done in English. Parasite made me super proud because I am a proponent of us whose culture was raped and suppressed – to stand in it and be proud of it. The fastest and easiest way to divide a people is to dilute their language, convince them their ways are inferior and basically impose English or whatever. Korea really held out and prospered and conquered IN THEIR OWN WAY using their OWN language. I can not begin to tell you how much in awe I am. I watched Parasite on the morning of the Oscars (because I hadn't had time prior to that) and I DID NOT expect that. Mind you I already was expecting top-class work because that is what I have come to expect of Korean creatives. Sorry but it's true. The writing was insane to me and fearless! Ok I am already too excited and it's early morning. I better end here! If it's not coherent I will try after some sleep. Just leave me a comment lol

  3. Really hoping that Parasite's win is the spark that international movie creatives to shine through. So many talented creatives not just in Asia, but all over the world that deserve to be seen and shared. ?

  4. I went to the Parasite party Neon threw just before Oscars… Everyone was there. I got to meet the cast and a host of other major players in Hollywood. It definitely felt like this win was manufactured by them. The feeling I got from the party was, "this is the one we are all voting for… right?????" Almost like when on survivor they strong arm everyone to vote their way, or you will be voted off the island next. It was a really good movie… but 1917 was best picture for sure… and almost everyone else I spoke with felt the same… but you dont rock that Hollywood boat, or you might fall out yourself.

  5. I watched your video twice. And was ready-eyed on both times. Call me emo but I agree with you on so many /all levels. And YES this win matters! And it will indeed open the eyes of so many movie goers.

  6. This movie was awesome. So disappointing it had made only 11 million in the US when I last checked, especially given that the apartment and rich house were custom-made sets and must have been costly. Hopefully more saw it after the awards.

  7. God, I literally cried when Parasite was announced as best picture. BJH is my favorite director, so the Best Director win knocked me on my ass with absolute shock. I CANNOT WAIT FOR HIS NEXT FILM.

  8. great vid ?. theres just one thing im confused about tho..wat about slumdog millionaire, didnt it win best picture too? i thought it was the first non english film to win best picture

  9. Beautiful take. I cried tears of appreciation for how you laid the overall challenges next to the triumph of the day, while illuminating with hope for the future. Thanks for this!

  10. I am neither asian or korean but this video made me cry. I am so proud of what Parasite accomplished because it is the most deserving movie that has won Best Picture. It is absolutely fantastic and game-changing.

  11. I love foreign movies . I'm use to sub titles . I think it would have been good if it just won for best International movie. There were a lot better films. I really don't care about the subject matter or South Korean caste systems. I think once upon a Time in Hollywood should have won. Hollywood always over does everything. I thought the first 20 minutes were boring. I saw another So. Korean movie that was better . My girlfriend and I . There's always been great foreign films . While I'm only one opinion . I don't think it matters..if something is good it should be awarded no matter what country it's from.

  12. As a Norwegian I have always found it so goddamn weird that native english speakers don't watch movies with subtitles. Ofcourse I realize the reason I dont mind is because I have been doing that most of my childhood and early teens. There are great movies from all around the world. Really liked the film, and hope to see more great movies from Bong Joon Ho.
