  1. I just reinstalled windows because I was a victim of a ransoware attack . Its been 10 minutes and now I saw this . I my file since 2012 were gone . I hate my life ?

  7. This actually happened to my dads' work computers, everyone's files got encrypted. They had to convert their money into bitcoin and meet some guy at a fast food restaurant! They actually think that they IT people did it to them!

  17. Don't use Acronis True Image. I knew about it and decided to use it for making an image of my boot drive. I made the image and it didn't boot, so I had to fix it manually. What's the point of it then ? There is just one thing it must do and it failed at it. Windows can make images too, so why bother with Acronis. In few words, Acronis didn't help at all. Also their support is bad, because they don't tell people what to do if they fail to boot. Is it that hard to explain to users what to do when they can't boot their image? Isn't that what people use it for ? Don't use this shit.

  19. Wait claim that there is no way to decrypt data, which in this day and age is definitely at least partially backed in quite bold claim.
    Nobody is using…
    I won't give idea to wrong people
    … Therefore having both encrypted data and data say on Dropbox, OneDrive, Apple iCloud or any other cloud you can easily derive key within seconds.
    It would be weird to not have some of this data stored somewhere.
    I myself have at least 3 working easily accessible copies of all my data. Catching ransomware I would decrypt everything as fast as my CPU can decrypt my drives (the bottleneck is actually in NVME drives)

  21. I got a free copy of a limited functionality of Acronis True Image 2014. I still use it.
    I've used it to restore a broken image of windows several times, and even just copy to other hard drives.

    I've honestly considered buying a later version several times, but 2014 still does everything I want it to (Except recognise an NVMe, but I can probably fix that).

  25. why use achronas when you can do this for free? lol. id consider paying if they had a way to decrypt the files. but this..? mate this is just a "too bad if you didn't backup. ya doofus" scenario
