  1. A lot of Pokémon side games have the “get it or you don’t” aspect. This is no exception. Glad you were able to see that even if you couldn’t feel it yourself.

  2. You are honest. It is just not a game for you and that is okay. You are still able to highlight the positives and why people enjoy this, including myself. Most reviews made by people that actually don't play Mystery Dungeon are pure garbage.

  3. Those “side quests” are missions, like the main job of a Pokémon rescue team the reason there are so many is so you can select from a massive set of varying ranks to train weaker team members, they are also procedurally generated and the premise of other rescue teams can take them.

  4. This is literally the only game in a couple years that I’m addicted to. It’s almost an exact replica from the original which I played like crazy, minus a few perks from the original but this game is gold IMO

  5. I understand you point of view, but after getting and playing the game myself this review is incomplete. If you only played the main games story, you only played roughly 1/3rd of the game. Just look at the icons hidden that are shown on the game load screen after you finish the story for proof. The post game is also extremely challenging.

  6. Wait you can't attack without a move anymore? You used to be able to attack without using moves. Also the whole missions thing yeah that's how it's always been, padding, you either like it or don't, what has me curious is how deep they went into these Pokémon Camps. That was my favorite thing in the original, the friend areas (now called camps), they were beautiful environments where I just wanted to raise the volume and listen to the music, or stair at the beautiful scenery, but hasn't been in the series since the 1st games, that will be my defining factor on whether I want this remake or not.

  7. personally i prefer the quests from sky since there where also bounty hunting quests and i feel that had a bit more going for it than find pokemon/item press A = mission complete but i am just glad to get a pmd that feels like a pmd. gates and super kinda let me down a bit

  8. I’m so glad he mentioned Absol, I couldn’t see a Pokemon list anywhere online, assumed just up to Gen 3 Pokemon would be available lol.

  9. Its honestly a series for a niche audience. Some may not find fun in it like others do but i guarantee there is fun to be had in these games. If youre a newcomer id recommend starting with either the explorers games(preferably of sky) or red and blue rescue team. Ive sunk so many hours into explorers of sky alone for the sheer amount of content and amazing storytelling. I hope more people try these games so they can keep making them. Its a series i care very deeply about

  10. I can’t stand it when people who never played or enjoyed the MD series do reviews. Smh I just hope they do remake Mystery dungeon explorers of SkY. The amount of replay ability of that game is astonishing! I put sooo much hours into it you have the special episodes , end game dungeons, legendaries , shaymin village , ludicolos smoothie shop ? Can’t remember but it was amazing!!!!!

  11. Very fair review for someone who hasn't played the original, but when the original came out, for it's time it was a really fun game on the gba/ds. Definitely a hidden gem in the whole pokemon franchise and i was excited to hear they were remastering it for the switch. Although they removed some of the nicer things that were in the original one, they also added a few new things but overall I'm super happy with this one. Worth the money if you enjoyed the original red/blue rescue team and would love to revisit it again.

  12. I like the demo, I don't know if I $95 like the game though. The only concern I have is battles being too easy. It kinda felt like 1-2 hits and everything died in the demo. Do enemies scale with you or get tougher post game?

  13. I like that this review is from someone that doesn't really know about the series too much because of the perspective. But a couple of things for those thinking about getting into the series.
    1. The issue he was talking about at 5:00 – that's definitely a lack of experience issue. When you go into a dungeon you can select pokemon tactics. When you're escorting – it's important to keep the pokemon you're escorting next to you so you can set the tactic for your other main pokemon to either "go their own way" or "go after foes" this makes it so they stop enemy pokemon before they ever get to your escorted pokemon. And in the case that a foe is nearby, you'll be right next to it to take care of it.

Not known about that system makes escort missions seem hard but they're really not that bad.

    2. This update made a TON of quality of life improvements – Makuhita dojo now works with tickets and they definitely give you a ton of XP and the scale the pokemon you go up against to meet the level that you're at. With good moves, you can 1 shot everything in the dojo giving you tons of exp so you can go up 1 to up to 4 levels in one run depending on how many pokemon you could kill in a minute. This makes it EXTREMELY easy to level up pokemon so you either – over level your current mons to basically kill anything in the dungeons easy or – level up key mons to have good type advantages in dungeons.

    3. Gold ribbons – holy shit – you get so many gold ribbons – in the orignal i remember it being kind of hard to make money. But with the amount of gold ribbons this game gives you early on, all you have to do is make sure you're always taking those quests and you'll have tons of money which leads me to my next point.

    4. Rare qualities. – not really a thing in the first game (there were IQ abilities but not quite like this) – find bargain ability and sell your gold ribbons in a dungeon and 10 of those give you 37k gold. That's crazy. Then other abilities like Squad up make it really easy to recruit mons early on. In the past game recruitment didn't really become easy until the late game. The fact that you can get these rare qualities so early makes a world of difference.

Overall i think they make the game really approachable to newcomers while still being fun and fresh for those who come with experience.

  14. heres an idea have someone who likes dungeon crawler games to review the game cause you know you really dont sound like you like this genre of game. maybe actually play the game past the story before you review the fucking game also you should have probably plyed the original before this review because it is quite clear you never played the original

  15. Just wait until they do a remake of the Explorers games.
There's a lot of challenging dungeons to do in Mystery Dungeon like going to the Buried Relic to recruit the Regi's and Mew with a music box, or Joyous Tower to get Jirachi, Meteor Cave for Deoxys or getting Lugia in the Silver Trench. 99 Floors is intense especially Joyous Tower, I've done it before and I'll do it again… In due time.

  16. Sounds like you just dont like this kind of strategy. There is after game content. And there are secrets to find in dungeons depending on certain items and locations

  17. I remember buying Red Recuse Team in Toys’R’Us when it first came out. The second I turned the game on and heard that music, it was like I was in elementary school all over again.

  18. I’m a really big Mystery Dungeon fan. The original RRT/BRT and the Explorers of Time, Darkness and Sky are my favorites in the series. As a casual Pokémon fan, it’s really the main story and the music that keeps me invested with the Mystery Dungeon series. I just started playing this remake and so far I’m really enjoying it.

  19. That's what makes the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games great. It's not super complicated strategy. It's a laid back game that you can jump into and play without getting too stressed out.

  20. to me its just another example of there making things easier for the newer generation to get into it better. just like sword and shield. and thats honestly showing my biggest problem with gamefreak/nintendo lately with pokemon. there making the games too easy cause there trying to appeal to the kids and the newer generation while forgetting what made the games from the past generations from late 1990s to x and y on good.

  21. from what iv seen it feels like they did stuff for the remake for the main story so that kids would have an easier time with the main story and even some post game stuff was made easier (western cave being 20 floors, legendarys being 100 precent recruit rate, friend areas being menus)
