just an fyi. When you ping something, it shows you the response time for the ICMP packets from host A to host B. It is not showing your internet connection. Host B can be 200 servers and routers away, which will delay your response time, this does not mean that your internet connection is slow. It can mean that one router och server on the way is slow for whatever reason.
I have spent months studying speeding up Macs and discovered a fantastic website at Achak Speed Plan (check it out on google)
