guyz download the nexus root toolkit just choose your phone model and it does it all for you, can't post link but if you can't find it by yourself send me PM i will be happy to avoid you 4 hours of useless mindbashing
ive been trying to do this for 4 hours now, didn't work in the end so i downloaded Nexus Root Toolkit
Is this to use with Pageplus
Does rooting delete all of your phone contacts and things like that?
Will this method work for android 4.1.1 on the galaxy nexus or do we need another program and are there other programs that are better than this method of rooting
Hello, this is my first time doing all this rooting stuff, I have the Verizon Galaxy Nexus with the IMM76Q build of Android 4.0.4.I could not wait for the OTA, so I followed all of your videos from insalling SDK, to unlocking the bootloader.I went from the first to the last video. Now I have ran into the problem where it is stuck on the google screen.I have factory reset from the bootloader and no luck….any suggestions?I have also wiped all the cache and stuff,,now stuck with no phone.
What is the purpose of the clockwork recovery? Once you put the su.zip file on the sd card aren't you pretty much done? You can just install it from a file manager.
Try re-downloading the root files. Make sure you are entering the name correctly. Shorten it if you need to. There are also plenty of all in one super root executable programs to try on XDA if this doesn't work for you.
Yes
I used your previous video on how to force the jelly bean OTA update will this method of rooting still work on my device I have the CDMA version from Sprint.
Hi, I followed your instructions but when I try to flash CWM Recovery from ROM Manager, It freezes up. Then I get a crash notice. What should I do?
I'm stuck in Recovery Mode when I tried to install su.zip file?? It shows a "tophat" on top of a circle. I can't get out it even when I press reboot system now.
Perfect tutorial!!!! Becoz of you QB I am enjoying all of the custom JB Roms from devs in XDA community. Thanks again!
thank you for your patience and excellent tutorials
try and type the command in again
uh oh… typed in the clockwork step, then went into recovery mode, now it just shows android, stomach open with a red triangle and ! 🙁
Yes
So… I unlocked my bootloader through your first two videos.. however I don't have a Verzion model (GSM Mobilicity)… CanI still root based on your directions?
Yep followed all instructions perfect, even tried it a 2nd time.
I don't think it works on 4.0.4 i wish i would of known that before i did all this :
how do i know it worked
You are very welcome!!! Glad I could help 🙂
everytime i try to flash the recovery it wont flash it says cant determine file name
I followed the the directions I installed su on my phone through recovery and su is in the app drawer however I still do not have root access. Can someone help me out.
easy fix dude when in that android with red sign just hit the volume up/down buttons (at the same time) and then a menu should appear then just shoes reset or format or something like that will erase alll your data and your phone should boot up and you will go back to stock nexus no root or cwm but it will stay unlocked
@qbking77 my phone is unlocked but when in try to go to recovery mode it shows an android icon with a red warning sign on its chest
where is your how to root galaxy nexus gsm?
This is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus from google play store right? If not could it also work for it?
when it says waiting for phone go into device manager.. find your device right click and update drivers
Need help my verizon galaxy nexus was rooted but my son hit the updated button by mistake now i try to root the phone and i can not. when i go to beelootloader said the is unlock. but when i try to do a flash recovery the message that prensent is (waiting for your phone). and nothing help help please
same problem here
Is the "Jelly Belly" ROM completely stock?
What are the perks to rooting exactly?
There should definitely be some fully working JB roms for the Verizon Gnex… Completely stock rooted
@qbking77 Yeah I understand. I'm just really debating whether or not to unlock, root, and flash over one of the new custom Jelly Bean ROMs. I feel like Verizon might take forever again to push the update OTA, so I'm thinking about it. I really want a 100% perfect Jelly Bean experience from a custom ROM, as good as if it was actually an OTA update, and i'm not so sure at how well custom ROMs can deliver on that. Some seem to be buggy and even missing features entirely.
No its not a bad thing… What you can do is just wait for someone to post a stock rom that you can flash through the custom recovery to update to the latest OTA instead of having to go back to stock.
@qbking77 Would you consider this a bad thing? And if, for example, an OTA update was on the way, would it be easy/possible to revert back to a state where I would recieve OTA updates?
Yes
Does rooting/unlocking/installing a custom ROM on the Gnex stop OTA updates?
I followed your steps to the letter, however I don't think that this root method was for stock Vrz Gnex 4.0.4. Please confirm. Can you add info to help those on 4.0.4? Thanks.
aarisom- it doesn't work for me either since I got the 4.0.4 update from Verizon. Is there any steps we should change? This sucks!
Thanks it worked, however when I try to use ROM Manager to Fash ClockworkMod Recovery i get "An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!"….is that because I renamed the original .img to 'abc.img'? If so should i just re-flash with the original name? will it hurt my Gnex?
Nope feel free to do that!
yes. i am sure I am using the right name. I followed your first 2 videos (getting SDK setup, and unlocking the bootloader) and everything was perfect. What if I change the name of the file to something basic (ie. 'abc.img') will that hurt to process?
You sure you're using the right file name?
