5. @maxpain0007 Then that would mean your phone had to originally have 1.5 when u first bought it then u upgraded to 1.6, then rooted it back to the orginial 1.5? Then yes this will work. When you try rooting your phone and it only goes back to 1.6 then no you can't do this.

6. @zollotech if your phone has 1.6 and 3.5mm jack on top and you downgrade to 1.5 cupcake then can you do ? Clarify more please

9. @zollotech if i do this with 1.5, can i upgrade 2.2.1 or does that depend on the ROM? will it affect the root if i upgrade the OS after rooting?

13. You mentioned that the phone will bricked if it loses power halfway or dropped the battery. I was doing your method. After 2 months or so, I do a system update from 1.5 to 1.6. suddenly the phone just blacked out , and now my phone just stucked on the mytouch 3g green screen everytime i on it. is it bricked? is there a way to repair it? you can watch my htc magic video to get clearer view.

19. @zollotech, or anyone…. when i enter the path for the recovery image when inside the flashrec, the Flash Recovery Image button does not become enabled. Any insight on this? Thanks in advance.

    FYI, i've tried both flashrec versions and several recovery image files.

22. so how come it won't work if the mytouch 3g came with 1.6? i have one that came with 1.6 and i can't find anything on how to root it. everyone says the same thing that it only works if it came with 1.5

24. @allanahjade25 If your phone came with 1.5 and you have upgraded that is fine and this should work for you. If it came with 1.6 on it when you got it, then you will not be able to use this specific method. Hope that helps.

27. i downloaded the sappimg and when i click on it it says "to open this file windows need to know what prgram to use open it. use web service to find the correct program or select a program from a list of installed programs?

30. @jordanmascot you will need to download both to follow this. If the links no longer work just do a search for the most recent in your favorite search engine

35. @arcaninepkmnTV you could try using the phone for that, but you can buy one on ebay or amazon pretty cheap

36. After the partition is complete and you take out the sd card, plug it into the reader… Is there any other way to get the rom onto your sd card. In other words, I don't have an sd card reader. Can I put the rom onto the sd card prior to this step? Say, when I put the flash recovery img file? Thanks in advance!

37. @UaLrEaDiNoE65 To root the phone or load a new rom you will need to downgrade to 1.5. You can then upload the rom of your choice and do it over and over without downgrading again. It is tough to brick the phone if you are careful. No guarantees though.

42. I was able to load the rom onto the SDmicro card by using the USB mass storage option on the screen that you get to by pressing HOME+POWER when the phone is off… the rom is working fine.

43. @outasflyguy You can't for the last part of it. You need to boot the phone and then remove the card to load the rom.

44. I believe you could just use the USB mass storage option at the bottom of the partition/flash menu instead of using a memory card reader.
