30. When it comes to proprietary add-on equipment, let me share…

    SONY stores were consistently "out of stock", when it came to obtaining an iLink cable to connect 2 PS2s back in the day. For YEARS, my friends an I searched for an iLink cable so we could race in Gran Tourismo, PvP, full screen, on two TVs. We're techies (embarrassed ones at that), who didn't realize we collectively had 7 of them all along in our spare-cable boxes.

    "iLink" was the proprietary name for "FireWire"; a common cable available everywhere. Good thing those SONY Store employees could run a cash register; they either knew f-all else, or were feigning ignorance so they could get back to earning their commissions on the high-end Stereo equipment.

    So, a proprietary 1TB external expansion drive? I'm sure a Seagate xTB drive with a common adapter will be half the price. Go for it, unless you really need that $45 SONY logo to prop up your ego.

31. Sony fanboy recently made the jump to PC master race. I will be waiting to see who has the better exclusives for me. History tells me i will be getting the PS5 but we will have to wait and see.

38. Sony is being misleading on purpose, especially since that slideshow was NOT for developers (they already all have dev kits and have been guided on this stuff).

    The SSD is NOT better or faster than anything available in consumer grade; I have a pair of drives that are individually faster and run more IOPs, while being larger. PCIe 4 drives may be available in limited models and for a lot of cash, but they definitely exist and are faster than Sony's presented numbers.

    Sony's presented SSD numbers are SATA 3 limits. They most likely are using SATA drives on a PCIe 4 SATA controller. That seems pointless, until you realize that SATA NVMe M.2 drives are overstocked and super cheap because direct PCIe M.2 drives made them obsolete. They're upselling a compromise as a feature.

    They hint that a teraflop is not the same on the PS5. True, the architecture is different and floating point operations are worth different amounts of output versus input now compared to past consoles. However the Series X uses the same architecture. 1TF on the PS5 is equivalent to 1TF on the Series X. The PS5 will do worse in graphical oomph than the competition unless they invent a new rendering platform that's more efficient. Microsoft has the DirectX advantage as well, for now.

    Also worth reminding, the PS5 numbers are maximum clocks. The system will almost certainly level out to a lower clockrates for the CPU and GPU once hot, very likely closer to the Series X clockrates. It's more likely the PS5 will hit 8-9 TF GPU throughput on average. Not bad considerint the lack of CUs, but definitely misleading.

    Take everything Sony says with a grain of salt. They have a history of manipulative marketing when it comes to selling consoles or pushing exclusives–I'm looking at you, No Man's Sky marketing team. Microsoft is playing it safe in a good way, starting big and then backing off to comfortable territory. Sony is starting with modest and driving hype. Research all of their claims further.

43. Ok who really cares about which system is more powerful or which system has the most"flops"…. All want is good games. Now days consoles are pretty much equally powerful as for as graphics go. The console wars ended years ago after the PS2, Dream Cast, Game Cube and original XBOX days.
