  1. I want Black women to win (ALWAYS! ??) BUT I am just SO tired of us being infantilized and needing help in nearly EVERY depiction of our existence! Its simply NOT accurate. White folks do NOT (in general) allocate their lives and resources to making up for our oppression as Black people, least of all as Women specifically. Like why does this story of a Black woman fighting to be the 2nd in history to win a prestigious award during menopause feel like it centers…A YOUNG WHITE WOMAN??!? How is this BECKY'S story even tho the BW is TWICE her senior?!? Idk… I'm giving this one the STRONG side-eye for now, idc HOW many times you put it in an ad!…

  2. This actually looks like a delightful film. I will peep it out.

However, there have been PLENTY of successful female artists over 40. Erika Badu, Janet Jackson, Missy Elliot, Patti Labelle and so on…

  3. "In the history of music only 5 women over 40 have ever had a #1 hit. And only 1 of them was black."
Self-righteous people: "I know, right? Such shameful racism."
Me (internally): Wait, 1 in 5 is 20%. Blacks make up 13% in the US, sooo…that's racial over-representation. Also is failing to get #1 hit reeeeeaaally the worst thing ever that I should feel sorry about? If I'm stuck inside my not-mansion during quarantine then you can fucking deal settling for a top 50 hit.

  4. In 2016, there was Sia with Cheap Thrills. In 2000, there was Madonna with Music. In 1999, there was Cher with Believe. In 1989, there was Bette Midler with Wind Beneath my Wings. We haven't had a black woman over 40 since 1986 with Tina Turner's What's Love Got to do with It? At least this movie has got a point. We do have Lizzo who got Truth Hurts to no. 1 in 2019 who is currently 32.

  5. Dakota cannot act. Then they had to play the race card with only one black woman over 40 made to #1. Since when are we supposed to look at the age, gender and color of the singer. If people like a song, they do. If they don't, they just don't. SKIP this movie.
If anything, Covid-19 has made us realise Hollywood is way overpaid, way talent-less and is not event remotely "essential".

  6. I'm not sure how I feel about Johnson's comedic talent – or about the eversame "invisible assistant outdoes the star – plot" – but this sure looks entertaining!
