When I was 12, in June 1979, I saw Kyle drive the Haddick's Towing #66 car in the morning race at Riverside. He was 18 and it was a BIG deal! Even though he did well (4th I think), the late Tim Williamson won in the # 10 Chevy. Williamson would have been the first great NOCAL. Great interview, thanks!
Ok, here's the deal: Dale Jr is not just a legitimately competent interviewer; he's a damn good one. He asks the right questions, and digs deeper until he's satisfied with the answer, which makes for endlessly compelling personal stories on this podcast. Examples: the real story behind Ricky Rudds falling out with Dale Sr and a fascinating account of how Kyle Pettys dad forced him to work in the shop for years before he could get out on the track in his own car. Keep up the good work, Dale. Love the podcast.
loved this episode especially the story about the rescue when he broke his leg
Thanks for sharing this clip! Brightened up the day!
this is freaking awesome….
2 modern day icons in the same room. BADASS
My Brother and I had a little Q A 50 Honda mini bike
awesome interview this week can't wait for him come back
Jr and KP are so similar when you think about it, both had grandfathers who were racing legends, both had fathers who are NASCAR icons, both lost a family member in a tragic racing accident
Wish they were full episodes
I could listen to these guys talk all day long!
That was a good interview!! Never heard about how Kyle's career began and how he got into racing. Amazing story of how he started. Really enjoyed it!
It's a damn shame Kyle didn't win more races than he did. Kinda like Michael Waltrip. I think the pressure to achieve is a burden on the younger generations of the great ones.
Dale jr, even lost to iracing on TV, same ole dale Jr.
I was wondering when they were going to get Kyle on here.
Really enjoyed listening JR. and Kyle tell stories about there childhood days. And how it was growing up with there legendary fathers. Also watched Kyles interview with Kelley Earnhardt, very cool!
Jeez, if he could just quit juggling his wedding band…that's about all I could concentrate on.
IM 51. AND BEEN A PETTY MAN ALL 51. KYLE PETTY IS A CLASS ACT!!! COOLEST RACE DRIVER EVER!!!
Great show.
Kyle tells a good story. Very likable fellow
My Dad said in order to respect speed you get a bicycle.
Dale, you are a natural … please keep doin' what you're doin'.
As I've aged and Kyle has settled into his role in broadcasting I understand more and more why Benny Parsons hand picked him to fill his spot.
Kyle petty an dale jr, r the legends of NASCAR! Shows respect& dignity & honor too their fans! Get him back lots of times! I'm a longdistsnce friend,of a friend of his in Missouri! Luve the Dale jr,podcaststs!
Speaking of Seagulls with a death wish…..wasn't it 1991the year that Dale Sr loses the lead and a win due to a "Dumb Seagull"!……..damn Seagulls!
So will we get to see Jr on coffee with Kyle next??
Gentlemen: It’s time for NASCAR to mobilize and manufacture masks and protective gear. The government is too slow and hospitals in critical areas such as New York and Rhode Island need N95 masks and protective gear! GETMEPPE is the hashtag. Pass the word! Get into action! God bless!
I remember being 5 or 6 years old hanging onto the rollbar in my uncles laguna S3 dirt track car while he was testing it up and down grandma's driveway. I loved every second of it but boy did my uncle catch hell from grandma! Big Petty fan and this is good stuff!
Everytime I see Kyle Petty it makes me wish Davey Allison was still alive.
Kyle is just about the most personable and friendly guy ever.
