  1. your info is a tech companies wet dream and you're being spied on by every country you can imagine.
as long as you're not sharing launch codes you should be fine lol

  2. People worried about China spying on us but not worried about their own government spying on you. Ps they used to use the public library to spy on you.

  3. Tik Tok is a cesspool anyhow. Nothing of value will be lost. Also there's a big optics problem with all of this because companies here have already been exposed as having provided mountains of data to the NSA, we do the EXACT same type of shit. That being said when it comes to China we can't get much out of there that way because they already block access to all the stuff we use and have their own versions of all of that stuff. The exception being those who use a VPN of course….

  4. It's pretty authoritarian (maybe the the worst thing Trump's done that I know of). Preventing ads from collecting data is good, but banning an individual app breaks all sorts of boundaries. Can another company do the same idea? How do they know they won't just get banned? Where is the line? Is it just an anti-China thing? Are apps from other countries really trusted? How do you separate a private company from a government? We know the NSA collects data on everyone, including people from other countries… so we should almost certainly act against that too.

  5. even if Microsoft bought the service it would still have ties to China.. thus why no one is on board with Microsoft buying it

  6. Eh…I domt know that i agree. I have a feeling this has already been investigated. The Facebook story is a bit different considering the claims started and were pushed by mainstream media. This issue with tiktok seemed to be inside knowledge. If major tech companies are asking their employees to uninstall the app, it gives it more legitimacy in my opinion. I also dont think the Gov is gonna come right out and confirm to the public that this app has been spying on us all along. Tiktok will either be yeeted into existence without much explanation to the public on the matter, or the conversation will fade away all together, and the app will stay.

  7. @Tipster You work in IT, you do not wait until security is breached. You have generalized all apps together, facebook messenger and tiktok. The biggest difference is the laws that govern a company. IN the US your data is private protected, recall when Apple would not unlock iphone for the government, this based on US laws. However, China has no privacy laws and can order a company to access the apps on your phones without your knowledge.

  8. Tipster is incredibly naive tiktok is part of the ccp that is responsible for the virus that has killed people all over the world. The answer is yes it is dangerous because it records people's keystrokes, and sends it back to the ccp.

  9. As if Google doesn't spy on the world everything you search all of your emails all of your Facebook and your contacts it's all on your cell phone oh that's OK googles an American company with foreign branches all across the world

  10. Lets be real here, like the app or not (and I don’t by the way) he wants to ban it because kids used it to seriously embarrass him over his Tulsa rally. Why else would he so out of hand reject any potential sale to an American company? Think about it. It’s a service that already has millions of users all over the world and the potential to grow even further, but he flat out rejects that being owned by the USA. He’s petty and vindictive and this gives him a chance to take the kids’ newest toy away. It’s got nothing to do with “privacy” or “spying” concerns, otherwise he’d be going after all social media services. But Facebook is ok, because Zuckerberg has said they won’t be fact checking political ads or statements, so they can have as much of your personal information as they want, no problems from the government.

  11. I dont care if they are using it to spy or not it is time to push Chinas influence out of our countries and show them we are not going to let them bully us any more and see how long they last

  12. Try posting Anti-CCP videos on Tik Tok. Though getting banned is not evidence of them spying, it is evidence that the CCP has control of Tik Tok. This is a common practice for the CCP, spying, seizing companies, silencing the opposition, stealing information. The problem with Tik Tok is not that it is a Chinese company but that it is a wide open door for the practices of the CCP. Banning is not enough in my opinion.

  13. Keep in mind the people on both sides who support this also re-upped the Patriot Act. And Trump just signed a bill that allows companies to sell your information without your permission. This is most likely about that Oklahoma rally

  14. It's not a source code issue that I have heard concerns about … it's a data storage concern. Because the company is headquartered in China, the Chinese government can request/confiscate data gathered by that company for "national security reasons." China has done this in the past with other China-owned social media apps/companies; they just weren't as large as Tic Toc. The reason why everyone is paranoid now is due to the recent legislation that China passed, making it even easier for China to confiscate said data.
And yes, Tic Toc has said that they would never turn over the data, and that this data is housed offshore (i.e. not on Chinese soil), the heart of the concern is data privacy and security … not some sort of malicious code injected into the app to be used as spyware.

  15. To get apps approved by the CCP of China, they will put in their own regulations and demands that these companies must follow, so yes, an app like Tiktok will without a doubt be FORCED to spy for the CCP; that's how China works, just look at how they treat their own citizens and how their CCTV systems are tracking every person and ranking them based on their life style.
Similar to how the TV show "Person of Interest" predicted a CCTV system could work to spy on us all.

That is the true reality, so do you need proof? You don't need any further proof than that.
If it's Chinese owned, it will be spying on you 100% guaranteed.

  16. Trump needs to be banned from all social media platforms and the media until he gets his shit together and starts to get the pandemic under control. The ONLY thing that should be on Trump's mind is controlling the pandemic and saving AMERICAN lives. They want to ban Tik Tok for the "possibility" of spying, and the U.S. government wants to be the only ones to spy on its citizens. Tik Tok may have security flaws, but what software doesn't, just look at Microsoft with it's security updates every other day, or Intel CPU's, even security software designed to keep your pc safe have security flaws in them. Perhaps the CIA should ask Tik Tok for their code/software, whatever and they can look into it and see if they think it has any spyware in it, if not then Trump and other countries need to apologize and unban it, if it does, THEN go ahead with the ban and put something out letting everyone know it does, and bankrupt Tik Tok, don't assume they are guilty without proving it.

India banned it because they didn't want China finding their phone scam centers, I mean the gullible need their Microsoft support don't they.

  17. You should bare in mind that there are very few countries that allowing to have data like this is too much of a risk. I am fairly certain USA is not going to use the data to destroy Liberty and replace it with some sort for real Fasci*m… However, China are the ones with literal c*ncentration camps, rounding up Muslims and ster*lizing them, forcing ab*rtions on them, and harvesting their hair and organs…. They are literally the modern WWII Germany. China (as a government body with military power; not the innocent civilians) should be the last ones to trust with our data. They would have much more sinister motives by collecting it and there is a huge certainty that any internet based app or website running in China has a backdoor for the Chinese government. And unlike Facebook and Twitter.. TikTok was copying your phones clipboard even while the app was not running and saving it to their servers. How many US citizens had copied their passwords for quick and easy log ins to various site? Couple that with how many people only use one password with no 2-step verification process…. After awhile China could potentially have enough data to cripple the USA economy. All they need are the right peoples data. And as a very popular app, that is something that likely could be feasible, given enough time.

This is less about the act of data mining, and more about the who and why. Unfortunately, it really does look like we are entering a Cold War with China. Given their actions, I would not be surprised if it turned into a hot war within the next 5-10 years. I somehow doubt diplomacy will win out this time. So we really need to put ourselves in the USA government's shoes here. Both Trump and Joe Biden are very worried about this app. Joe Biden even ordered anyone under him (who is apart of his staff) to delete the app ASAP. This is a bipartisan issue. Which for the country of USA is a huge deal especially in 2020. We need to take this serious because this could be more important that just being salty about another country's App entering our mainstream tech circles and the USA not wanting competition with them. If that were the case, Trump likely would have given Microsoft the okay to buy them.

(had to censor myself because it kept showing me that my comment was deleted. Likely from YouTube's algorithm.)

  18. There is much more to the connections to China than folks give credit for. China government (I say it that way intentionally) has the authority to view any data collected by a Chinese owned business at anytime regardless if where it came from. Naturally, this is the governmental concerns.

  19. It is much easier to ban the app then to have Microsoft buy it, look it over, and potentially miss any possible back doors. The App was made from the ground up by a Chinese company. As much as buying the app could solve a lot of problems, It also may not solve the problems as thoroughly as just banning the app.

  20. Chinese or not, I use TikTok. Trump doesn't HAVE the evidence to back him up for the American people to actually see.
He's all talk & talk but can he walk the walk to focus on the COVID 19 virus instead? No, he can't because he continues to talk about his hate relationship WITH China. It's a distraction to this years election. There's no crystal clear proof of my data being "stolen" by China.
