There is a couple of tools now to removal this nasty malware from the computer, one is from ESET and the other is from Symantec FixPoweliks64 or FixPoweliks32 and the other type ESET Poweliks Cleaner will remove this backdoor from the system, you will have web sites blocked and multiple dllhost files running on the system, you will be getting powershell errors and the computer system resources with be 100% CPU usages and very high memory usage. This malicious virus infection injects nasty registry entries. You will need to reset your browsers and run other software like Malwarebytes, Hitmanpro, Rouge Killer and Eset Online Scanner to make sure the system is clean.

  1. that symantec link is not working, but the eset one does… and it removed the bug in just one swipe…. it was just awesome!!!! thank you so much…. cheers!!!

  2. im getting loads of chrome process in task manager when i open up a couple chrome tabs is that this virus? also my hdd locks up at random times and stops everything.

  3. Tried using Symantecs removal tool for this infection and it didn't work. Said it didn't find it. Used ESET's and it found it and removed it. No more powershell.exe errors.

  4. Great videos Brian. My experience with Poweliks removal has been difficult. I had no luck with the ESET or Symantec tools. What worked for me was to boot into safe mode, run Rogue Killer, but do not hit delete directly. Run process explorer and then select kill process tree on the dll hosts, then quickly hit delete on Rogue Killer. Thanks again for the helpful videos.

  8. Maybe running Roguekiller and/or Malwarebytes Antimalware in Safe Mode with Networking would remove this threat.
Otherwise you may even want to try and run RoguekillerCMD (in Safe Mode with command prompt), to get rid of this threat.
