OpenWRT – NanoPi R2S Overview & Performance Test (NAT, OpenVPN,Wireguard, SQM QoS)

(Subtitle Available)
The NanoPi R2S has 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports and powered by the Rockchip RK3328 SoC. It has 4 cores running at 1.3GHz. The board also has 1G of DDR4 RAM, which should be more than enough to run OpenWRT. In this video, let’s have an overview of the NanoPi R2S and its performance with OpenWRT.
At the time of making this video, the R2S is running OpenWRT 21.02.3 stable release. The OpenWRT installation is very simple, all you need to do is downloading the firmware and write it to the microSD card with Rufus or your preferred application.
Please do not confuse between the NanoPi R2S and the NanoPi R2C – where the Realtek RTL8211E Gigabit Ethernet transceiver had been replaced with the MotorComm YT8521S Gigabit Ethernet transceiver.

  1. Hi Bạn, bạn kiểm tra thử openwrt v21.02.3 throughput PPPoE không vlan tối đa iperf3 được bao nhiêu Mbps? có phải bản này bị lỗi không lên được 800Mbps không?

  2. I'm trying to set up an access point (Ubiquiti 6 Lite) in client mode with Open Wrt. Is this possible with that AP because according to the OpenWRT documentation the client mode requires routing and I thought routing is only possible with Wifi Routers and not with standard AP's like the Ubiquiti one (or am I wrong and OpenWRT adds Routing capabilities with its firmware and routing does not require specific Router HW)?

  3. From my understanding OpenVPN is a long script compared to wire guard and takes longer for the connection to ping back.

Whichever device does PPPoE also has to do NAT, and whichever device does NAT usually does DHCP. If your router has a better, more flexible NAT and a better DHCP server, let your router do it.

You don't want both devices doing NAT if you can avoid it. That's called "double NAT" and tends to cause problems for people who don't know what they're doing (and even some who do)

  4. How did u manage to get 940mbit with sqm on your R4S ? I got the OpenWrt 22.03.0-rc1 Firmware and I’m getting only 650mbit ?
