  1. To expand on my previous comment I would use the Switch as an example of how much more convenient it is to own a digital copy over a physical copy. It is time and space saving to be able to press the power button on my Switch and immediately have access to most of my game library instead of lugging around a case with cartridges that are only capable of holding one game at a time. Often you also get a performance boost from playing off the system storage or a micro SD card vs. cartridges. Nowadays you almost always have to download data to the system storage anyway so you might as well save yourself the hassle and go digital.

I hate to burst bubbles but digital distribution is the future in games just like it is with music and movies. People value time and there is too much time saved going digital for it to not be the future of games. Besides games are becoming too large to store on the disc media available so it’s inevitable.

  2. I own two Xbox One X consoles and I cannot stress how much more convenient it is to buy a digital game over a physical copy. I took for granted how nice it is to play on one system and then pick up right where I left off on the other system once I started playing my physical copy of Watch Dogs: Legion and realized I had to retrieve my disc from the other system in order to play on the other. It’s really convenient to have one game downloaded on two systems at the same time and that’s something that physical media is not capable of. It also provides a quieter experience and in my case a faster gaming experience because I download most of my games to an SSD external drive. It also gives me piece of mind since the less I use the disc drive, the less likely it is to wear out and break.

  3. Well… as much as I understand the idea of pushing digital sales, in this case M$ absolutely failed. Even Sony didn't made their homeworks but at least they offer a decent SSD in the digital PS5. If you wan't people to buy all games digital then you nee to do TWO THINGS: 1st give them a reason to do so, the best would be cheaper digital releases or at least a cheaper console to play them… that's what both companies did at least somehow. But 2nd thing to do would be to offer a console that has enough internal storage to hold at least a good ammount of the games you like. But that's not the case with the Series S. 364 GB that's what, 3-6 decent games? Many people will reach that point within the first 2 weeks after release if not earlier but at least when the big titles show up! Yes I know you can redownload the games any time but imagine doing that every 3-5 days if you want to switch between several games!??! It takes forever, even if you have a good internet connection, below with 300 mb/s it's allready quite frustrating!
I think M$ never really wanted people to buy the Series S for playing digital games only, they are going to pull people into their Cloud gaming plans, that's what I think the Series S was made for…

  4. The biggest issue with digital is when the marketplace is gone, so is the purchase. I had this happen with Stargate something or other where the store shutdown before I got a chance to even play the game.

  5. I'm pretty sure that the games on my PC take WAY less space than 300GB… I'll never understand why some people have trouble with even 1TB. It's not like you need to have your every game installed at the certain second.

  6. I wonder why YUZU took down its online :p…..
A paid service which allows piracy of nintendo switch games.
Now where have I heard that one going wrong before ;).

  7. On the message of the day section, I agree with this 100%. On PC though you have third party retailers and digital is excellent there as you have great websites decidated to cheap CD keys, not to mention excellent sales regularly, whereas on the consoles the digital prices are dictated by the online store and you lose out on the option of selling, trading, borrowing from friends, buying cheap from retailer etc. when you own a digital only console… It's not really worth owning PS5 Digital or a Series S.

The funny thing is though, despite the ramp up in game prices I probably would have bought a Digital Only Series X (Not S because it's not powerful enough) if it existed, because the Game Pass Library is enough for me to consider never buying any Xbox games digitally, I'll just play everything on subscriptions and on the PS5 is where I'll buy my physical disc games.

  8. The only reason why yuzu is better than switch is becuz nintendo is so dumb and doesnt know what consumers want. Nintendo is using the worst screen and bad cpu gpu to disappoint everyone.

  9. The interesting thing about this idea of selling a physical game when you’re done with it is that the used-game market takes revenue away from the developers. When you buy and sell used, you’re really just supporting Gamestop or Ebay. I’d much rather give my money to Sony or Nintendo.

  10. This dude, you know, I'm one of your all time subs, but how obvious is the path you're taking, so sad.
So nothing on the images of the ps5 overheating??? Sooo objective dude, un-subscribing RN

  11. I cannot believe the series S is a digital only console with only 364gb?! Current CoD is like 250 something right?

That is literally not even usable right there.

I guarantee AC Valhalla is over 120GB. You can't have CoD and one new game installed ?

  12. 16:39 I'd like to respond to comment of the day.

Resale is a perk of physical. Gamers can sell games they're done with, and other gamers can buy those older games at a discount. There are a lot of older games on digital stores that are still listed at $60 when the physical is like $10 new or $5 used. Physical media is very pro-consumer in the regard of the secondhand market. BUT…

There's a bigger problem with digital than that it kills the secondhand market. The bigger issues are lack of ownership and lack of longevity. We've seen this already, games getting delisted from shops for a variety of reasons, even current gen games. Just a few examples off the top of my head.

Telltale collapsed a couple years ago and their IPs disappeared from digital stores. If you wanna play a Telltale game, all you can do now is go to your local used game shop and buy physical.

Alan Wake was delisted because it had a licensed song on it, and the publisher lost the license. The only way for anybody to get the game now is physical.

How about P.T.? It was originally a demo for a Silent Hills game and it was phenomenal, but got delisted when the game got cancelled. Now the only way to play P.T. is if you happened to download it at the time and never deleted it. Even if you got it when it was available and your hard drive crapped out, or if you happened to delete it to make hard drive space — it's gone and you can't redownload it even if you did already "purchase" the free rights to this demo. If your friend wants to play P.T., he can't just borrow it from you, as it's tied to your PSN account and can't even be copied from your hard drive to his. This is an example of killed digital software that only a lucky handful of people can ever possibly play anymore.

Or another theoretical that I haven't heard about actually happening but certainly could. If a game publisher for some reason has to delist or end their game, they could also push a patch that kills the game. Guess what? If that game was digital only, you're stuck. Game over. If that game was physical, you can uninstall the patch and still play on the original disk or cartridge version you bought.

But I'm gonna give an extreme example of a pro of physical media. Remember the scrapped Atari game E.T.? The game still had a large run of manufacturing and it was rumored millions of cartridges were literally dumped in a landfill in New Mexico — a rumor that turned out to be true and 728,000 cartridges were recovered in 2014 and are in working condition. If that were digital only, the game gets delisted and patched and it's gone forever.

Does going digital sound even remotely smart now, knowing how easy it is for your full price purchase to be taken away?

  13. You can keep talking about an all digital future but it won't be happening for awhile. There's still too many people with poor internet and data caps. You will see the death of Gamestop before digital is even close to taking over

  14. It's not proprietary code when Yuzu clean rooms their own online service. This is 100% morally OK. Why shouldn't they be able to engineer their own online service?? And all payments are donations, and are not necessary at all. Why is this wrong?

  15. A Nintendo game is repetitive and boring, critics pan it left and right. A Ubisoft game is repetitive and boring (Any given Assassin's Creed game, Watch Dogs Legion, etc), critics proclaim it as a master stroke of video game production.

  16. Digital way to go! The thought of having to actually get up off the couch and change a disc to switch my games again scares me… You physical copy gamers dont know what your missing..

  17. If it wasn't often more expensive to buy digital copies during launch window I wouldn't mind buying digital. They seem to still price games as if they have a physical supply chain, I bought FVII Remake for significantly less from amazon than it would have cost on the PSN store. Brand new copy only a couple of months out from launch with no reductions so it's just ridiculous that buying the right to download data with infinite stock costs the same as or more than a physical object that has to create in finite amounts.
